It's out in the shops now and........IT LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER WICKED PRODUCT...!!!This card only works at present with Logic family products, & also the hard disk audio software that comes bundled with the card, called 'VMR' ( Virtual Multitrack Recorder)......
The "Audiowerks 8" has got Stereo analog inputs.....8 seperate audio analog outputs, + S/PDIF I/O....and all for £ 499 !!!....Amazing....!!
The card actually uses ADAT A.D.A converters, so the quality should be A-OK......... When I talked to the UK distributors (Sound Technology in Letchworth), they told me that believe it or not, they are soon to release an ADAT optical interface daughterboard, which clips to the "Audiowerks" card, so you can transfer both ways between PC & ADAT....Excellent huh ?!!....This only goes to make the card even more appealing, if 8 seperate outs & S/PDIF for 500 quid isn't enuff for you !!!
Apparently, Emagic dealers will probably be doing some bundle deals with the card & "Logic Audio" or "Logic Audio Discovery" softwares for an even better joint price.....I think we're talking about £ 750 - 800 ish for the whole package....Logic Audio is priced a bit higher than some other softwares, so once this product ships, and the deals start flying, this is going to be hot for Emagic........
"Logic Audio Discovery " is a slightly cut down version of the new V2.5 "Logic Audio"..... In fact, I think it's basically the older V2 with the older "Digital Engine" DSP Software......But you can be assured that it will cover your needs....so watch out for that software & card bundle for an even cheaper price !!
Ok....that's pretty much it....I'm going to try and get us a VIP demo copy to try in the "real-world" at the studio.....We'll keep you posted !!
In the meantime, I expect that there are a few coders out there frantically trying to crack some drivers for this card for their own software.... cos at this price, it has to be a total winner for Emagic, and they will want to get in on the act........ Alternatively, this may induce other software houses to get their own 8 out cards sorted pretty damn quick....!
(UPDATE: The Audiowerk-8 now has drivers included with later VST versions.)

regarding ht e qdi board syste,m and the failpathinit......
i saw your audiowerk problem..... and noticed you have a qdi mainboard.... I have jsut finished a nightmare install with a
qdi board...... did yo add the special s/w drivers after installing win 95 ?... these help windows to see the pci bridge, and
al the other busmaster controllers and pci-isa bridge etc.....
once installed, YOU MUST REMOVE ALL DOS REFERENCES TO THE MSDEX cd drivers in your autoexec bat
and config sys files, otheriwse windows wont boot......
maybe this is problem ?.... idunno..

i have e-magic audiowerk 8, but still find Cubase much more friendly than Logic Audio as an audio recorder/midi sequencer. Could e-magic please please come up with a multimedia driver for windows 95 that will allow users to utilise all 8 separate outputs on the Audiowerk card from other programmes? I'm sure it is in their best interests to beat their competitors to a fully multi-media friendly multi channel soundcard.

I can't get it to work inside Logic Audio Discovery
I've installed the latest drivers and updates of LAD
and audiowerk.
It keeps telling me fail pathinit - something like that -
System intel 200mmx with qdi Tx mainboard; s3 virge dx 4mb videocard
and an advansys 930 ultrascsi all on the PCIbus!

I dont mean to put things on a dowmner but using my new Computer Warehouse Paris Mac and the Audiowerks 8 with Logic Discovery I'm finding whenever I try to record there is horrible noise interference (a phased and distorted hiss). What the hell is it? Please help....regards Turk.

I have the card but i have a lot of problems.
Its great when it all works but there are a lot of
driver problems and many windows crashes for me.
The sound is the best when it works. I will stick it
out and hope Emagic solves the crash and driver problems soon.

here's the deal with the AW8 card:
it currently runs with logic audio or logic audio discovery version 3.0. i just bought the bundled "Home Studio Kit" (for US$669!), which comes with Discovery 3.0, and had some problems with the drivers as well. the current driver is a beta (v0.9) and is unreliable with other programs (including rebirth). almost impossible to beat the price tho, especially with 8 outs. rumour has it that emagic will develop a driver that makes the card compatble with other programs - they apparently want to push their software. so far, i've got no major complaints.

Hi folks,
A friend of mine bought the Audio werk 8 card.
He is an professiol musician.
He would like to use the card under Logic Audio 2.6.
Unfortunately he is not able to install the card properly.

This is a cool card... Everything is clean an it integrates well into Logic Audio... (DUH!) I
would still recommend triple dat as a total package over this... I hope there will be more

Why on earth doesn't the emagic AudioWerk8 card support
other soundrecording software like cakewalk.. Don't you realise that this would
increase sales enourmously.. Maybe a set of (WORKING) drivers for cakewalk
and cubase would be a good idea.... I know I would buy it for sure...
Otherwise a good product... Only question is the d/a conversion bitrate.. Is it 18 bit or 16 bit
Couldn't find these details on web so far... I seriously cannot afford to buy another auido program
after forking out for Cakewalk 6.0 But am in the market for a card like yours. Any hope for me???
.Please take the plight of the Part Time/ Pro with thin wallets as I personally know dozens that would be interested..

Hmmmmmmm....... although the advertisinmg for the Event cards says it will work with Logic family, I've now heard a few rumers that there is a problem with Logic as Emaguc dont want to get drivers together as it threatens the Audio werks card sales......er.....dunno if this is true, OR if the same applies to the Audiowerk cards compatibility with other softs.......maybe they want folks to buy LOGIC, and not a different software.... I dunno....really, it should be up to the S/W manufacturer to get a driver for the card.....I dunno...that's what I heard tho.....

I'm a professional jazz guitarist in the Philadelphia area. I've been using the Audiowerk card for a while now and it's AMAZING! I'm currently recording a Christmas CD with it and I'm very happy with it's clean and surprisingly warm sound. The only thing that is strange is that when I use the DSP it can be very "dirty" sounding. when I use reverb on a track it sounds like a bunch of quarters falling on my desk! The 8 outputs do add the flexibility of using external processing though.

Your right. Some people are trying to write an ASIO
driver for the audiowerk8 so it'll work with
Cubase VST 4.0 (on a G3 mac). I downloaded one from
the Emagic site. It produced a varied and random
selection of error messages and crashed and froze
a lot, but I still could'nt access AW8's 8 outputs.
Apart from that it works fine.
.... i've just scrolled forward and read some of
the horror stories from people who ARE using AW8
with Logic. I guess i should consider myself lucky.

If you find it easier to edit audio in cubase
rather than logic you must be doing something wrong
I have mine running on a macintosh with no installation

Ive Just installed an Audiowerk8 Card after having
been useing a Fiji. It Installed fine no errors
and all works great Except that when Monitoring

I have a mac performa 6400, that says it can take PCI cards up to 6.88 inches long- the audiowerk8 says it is 7". Will this work(ie is 7" an estimation for 6.88")? Will I be able to at least use the digital out with digital performer 2.1? If I can then my score 5/5 applies...

I had regularly some problems w/ the SPDIF input. Dumping my tracks from DAT at 48KHz, the sucker would randomly lose synchronisation from time to time and then I had to... I don't remember if it was switching off/on or restarting something. But it sure gave me headaches. I know my DAT is a crappy old AIWA (HDS-1) but it should work anyway : seems that something is badly speced out there... what a pity. Nice sound otherwise.

Is it possible when under OS8.5 and the AW 8 is switched on in controlpanel it will

Hello Emagic!
Ok i bought the Aw8 sound card in helsink i would have at least 4 years ago and its been great..however now i have switched to windows xp and would be running Cubase sx2 with this card but im having below problem.Now i know you cannot guarantee anything with sx2 but
any clues about why i have this problem below? Or is it as simple as Aw8 will just not function properly with Cubase at all...i always noticed it worked better with Logic.
I have recently upgraded to your driver on your site..is there something newer i can use?Problem is below:
ok my prob is that when im running Cubase sx2..everynow and then i get this annoying message that tells me the sample frequency has changed from 44.1khz to 48khz...
know why this happens??..apparently i am not the only one who has had this problem..but most others have been able to stop Cubase from always switching between the 2 frequencies...have tried just about all the different settings with Cubase and my AW8 sound control and cant sort it out...
i wonder if Emagics aw8 just works better with Logic than Cubase..i would hate to have to go and buy a new Auido card just cause of this little glitch...
any help would be appreciated!! ;)

I have recently purchased the audiowerk8 that l am trying to use with cubase SX.
Everything is running ok exept my Midi .l have all the inputs and outputs on the Vu meter but no sound is coming out!!!!
Also there is the sample rate that keep changing?

I used this card for a project a few years ago when it first came out
now there are so much better cards ... i would look at anything from RME
all of there cards are A LOT cleaner , have adat in / out and basically
kick this hissy noisy card all the way to the junk store..
i would avoid this unless you find one CHEAP , otherwise look somewhere else

Like some other people here, I'm having BIG problems trying to re-install the audiowerk 8 sound card on Windows XP. The original installation disk will not work on XP (it must have been created just before WinXP came out).
There must be some drivers on-line to enable XP (and Vista) installation somewhere - the ones that are supposed to do the job have not worked for me.
This was an expensive bit of hardware. Where is the after sales support, PLEASE!

It is 2013 and I have been running an AW8 since 1999. It is GREAT and has been the workhorse of my studio. Yes, I run a now-ancient mac: 9600 with a Sonnet G3 accelerator card; OS 8.6; 260MB RAM.
