Here's some stuff about the SBVLive & APS drivers from a DT forum contributor called 'm', which was clipped from the forums of the old site - (i didn't write this, only just posted it to the articles, so ignore the author link) -

Heres a few tips on how to use the apslive mixer if you havent figured it out yet, its well worth studying a bit because you can assign 6 stereo buses from the VST master mixer into seperate channels on the APSlive and treat them individualy with onboard DSP effects just like using plugins in VST but these dont tax your CPU as they run on the EMU10K1 chip on the the soundcard.

Theres a whole bunch of FX incuding:

  • reverb
  • chorus
  • flanger
  • compressor
  • echo delay
  • pitch shifter
  • 4 parametric eqs, etc

...and you can add these to the internal synths as well to beef up the sound a bit, and they look wicked as well.

  1. go to VST master mixer, on the right side you have bus 2 through 6, activate as many as you want, master=aps 1+2, bus 2=3+4, bus 3=5+6 and so on..

  2. now open up the APSlive mixer go edit/add strip/user submix, add as many stips as you did in VST (you can also add digital and/or analog CD inputs in this way)

  3. click on user1 at top of the first new channel strip go asio bus pair/bus 3+4.....repeat for strip 2 select 5+6 and so on. (bus 1+2 already use the wave strip on the left side of the mixer).....you can also select a midi synth to a channel and run it through some effects before going into the master.

  4. to add an effect click on the little arrows at the top of the channel, click append effect and bobs your uncle

By default your main out goes to physical out 1+2 and you can use physical outs 7+8 as an effects send to external units:

  1. at top of master section (middle of APS mixer) click where it says 'none' and select physical output/ 7+8.

  2. now do the same on the channel you want to send from, now just uder where it says 7+8 there is a red volume slider which controls the send level

Or if you want 2 seperate stereo outputs:

  1. click at bottom of master section (middle of APS mixer) click where it says 'analog out 1+2' and select 'none'.

  2. at top of master section (middle of APS mixer) click where it says 'none' and select physical output/ 1+2.

  3. just below that do the same and select physical output/ 7+8.

  4. now do the same on each channel and assign the output to 1+2 or 7+8, now just uder where it says 1+2 or 7+8 there is a red volume slider, put it on max. thats it, simple.

so for example if you want your wave sounds coming out front and midi sound coming out rear just assign wave to 1+2 and midi to 7+8. you can also add analog input strips, plug in a guitar or whatever and use the DSP effects in realtime just like any other channel. play along with the rest of the song and route just that channel back to record in VST activating 'disk record' on any channel will route just that channel to the input of cubase or wavelab or whatever it might sound complicated but its not. check it out
