afraid so

given past form though there's a good chance that a new company will rise from the ashes, can't imagine everyone at Waldorf will be entirely happy with being Terratec's bitch.

they already did that microwave pc thing didn't they? so I guess an updated, pci version will be in the offing... could be interesting as it'd be much easier to upload your own wavetables and there'd be a lot more memory for os updates, which supposedly ended up being a big problem with the xt.

I heard that they are bankrupt because the cooperation deal with Terratec has been cancelled for whatever reasons.

Well, they did make nice bits of oddball kit... I think the problem is that the stuff cost too much... And the stuff that's cheap is confusing as a motherfucker compared to its competitors (am I the only one who hates the uQ/Attack "grid" style editing system?)...

I mean I'd have loved an XT, but not for $1100... I'd be all over a Q keyboard if it cost $1200-$1500.

I wonder if the development cost of the Q+ didn't have a big part to play...

I like the grid of the micro q. I think it's intuitive... but then I like the grid on my Yamaha A3000 as well!

They had to invest a lot in R & D becaue they were interesting and better than the competition. None of this regurgitate the same synth for 10 years running like Korg and Roland... Hell even Novation (who I love) hasn't offered anything worth moving past the supernova for. Good synths, yeah, but not new... Waldorf made awesome sytnhs, improved their product line a few times (in the short time they were around, what was it??? 10 years???)

Love 'em to death

And like I said above, mark my words... Waldorf synths will be coveted in the years to come... Rememebr the Quasimidi Polymorph? Bad company, awesome synth, and the used market on those things his awesome.

I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just saying that obviously the market for those synths were too small for a company to survive on. The Q+ in particular always fascinated me. It's so bloody expensive.. You can have a voyager or Andromeda for less money. And again, the Q keyboard costs $500 more than its competition.

Hopefully the stuff won't become too expensive on the secondhand market because I'd love a Q keyboard or an XTk.

yeah... but Q used three times as much dsp as a virus, hence the price difference.

then again, supernova uses twice the dsp of the Q for its effects...

*shrug*
