I started checking out DT a few years ago, when it was still something like bunji-reality.com. I know I wasn't one of the first to find this place so I'm curious about it's origins. I am sure it would be of interest for many to know a bit about the history of this site. I don't see an "about DT" section anywhere.

I've been here about 2 years now. When I'm back in town, I'll be trying to finish a tune that's like Trance and Trip Hop collide. It'll stand as as example why this combination never caught on. Nonetheless, I learn lots at DT and had fun at the same time.

rhyze, why don't you tell a story first, and maybe kilo will feel more like telling a story after. jasper can do some drawings and influx can write a poem.

I wonder to my self alot

Is it true or is it not

That what is which... and which is what?

On Tuesday when it hails & snows

The feeling in me grows & grows

That hardly anybody knows

If those are these or these are those

Lia was great. So was Luci. Luci posted some great tracks.

We have to wait for K to come out with a prequel. I came upon this site and was blown away and as I said 50 times in the past, I bought my second synth, Supernova, based on a review by some weirdo named Kilo. Well I listened to the thing too. Whatever happened to that Kilo dude :P

And I have nothing else to do

I sometimes wonder if it's true

That who is what & what is who

More recent MIA would be H. As in punk-rock, not steps. It was cool how everyone hated his ass and then he came around and turned out to be cool guy. Fuck that dude would POST like a mother-fuck tho...

Oh yeah! I forgot about Tony.. Didin't xxxfannieAnnie claim to be a porn actress too?

I used to lurk about 3 and a half years ago then I dropped out for about a year then came back to participate. I remember bunji-reality and kilo 4-3 world too at the top of the window. crazy.

My favorite by far is Georgie "poo poo on your face suckas" Boy. A regular 'dog shit on the lawn of life' kinda guy.

But Dancetech and it's members have taught me so much, so thanks/cheers.

yeah H got under peep's skins but I knew we'd all love to talk about him ;-) Yeah I miss Jez tho he was cool and had good tracks.

Plus eveyone's names changed a little after the big server change/site re-design. So does bl_nd=Blandrew?

There's prob. some great blackmail material in the vast archives of DT. Some of mine would be like,'Hey dudez, I just got my AWE64 Gold!!! I got some dope new tracks done too, check 'em out and give me feedback!!!' ;-))

And then there was that R-Tek dude, ruler of the sampler world, and pixie magnet, now lurking even closer.

yes, blandrew and sometimes drew or andrew brewer or andy or just blank because i was too lazy to type in a name.

i met xoxos through dancetech--my connexxion w/ him always fascinates me because he holds more significance than the majority of my friends, yet i have never met him in person.

someone named ivan turned me on to fm synthesis. in fact, re-reading some of his posts in the archives motivated me to get a used sy77.

i must say, k, that, to this day, dancetech is an unparalleled resource. there is no other website w/ as much intrinsic value.

Hmmmmm.... Whatever happened to Nobody? His posts were always the funniest... Didnt he change his handle or something? Every once in while I will see some posts that could be none other than Mr. "Kill all Humans".

Caspar Project has been gone for a while, whom I was beginning to wonder about, but a recent post proved his existence, although he's still been quiet since then....

Yea, Superprophet. I'll never forget the day I sat down to look at DT in my early days. Someone asked "What gear to I need to make Trance?" Nobody answered "A bowling ball and a burrito". Don't know why but I was in hysterics. Another time there was some heated argument going on and in the middle of it Nobody posts "I just made the best mushroom and cheese omelette for breakfast. Oh, sorry". And that was it. I fell off my chair.

And then the idea for a Dancetech tee-shirt where the front says "Kill All Humans" and the back says "Have a nice day...Dancetech.com" Still think that's a winner.

God, I've lurked here for around three years, saw it at bunjireality... but essentially since almost the beginning of dancetech.com

R-Tek was OK... thuogh his conversion to software sequencing from hardware evangelism was fun.

And I remember SBLive guy. Wow. I remeber something.

And essentially, all the people who've made it worhtwihle - casparproject, sitar, influx, horizens, nobody, nothingnewhere, defectorz, r-tek, xoxos, sitar, and of course the man k. That's about all I can remember.

And after three years... I've got fuck all gear and fuck all beats. Things are making progress... I start work to save for the A4000 tomorrow...

here's to three more great yeras, ups and downs, and maybe some tunes from YT...

skb.

chuckle - their posse is banned from now on - shame they've turned everyone off the artist (even if she is crap, but they still have done more to make sure people will always spread the negative word)

R-Tek's still here I beleive, he changed his name tho.

Boy, there's some serious history talk goin' down in this thread. I haven't thought about some of these people in yonks (I been here about 4 years now, maybe 5).

I still think K should do a skin in the original Dancetech/bunjireality.com tip

Aren't all those original threads hanging around somewhere on the site? I remember K saying something about them being reloaded up the new server when the present site moved.

yeah, for some reason I thought DT was SWISS (??) when i first saw it...i remember having only a tracker and cubase 2.5 at the time...I thought music just could not get any more sophisticated than that state of technology....

remember those an1x/jp8000 discussions...or wheter the mc303 was someting good or not.....or when the bassstation came out...those where machines I couldnt afford at the time but I wanted them sooo bad.....

What type of food were you feeding? I read that has a lot to do with it. I feed SMPTE this stuff that doesn't fish, or fish oils as part of it's protien. Still she does have a scent. I like it better than cat or dog scent though.

Darkstate, I'm waiting for the DVD. I don't envy the boom operator on that one. Having to boom a bunch of silly critters talking and running about everywhere... ;)

k,

That white cat in the picture up there... s/he's got this "come hither" look I just can't look at for very long without, well... never mind.

The black cat, by contrast, looks like s/he needs that first cup of coffee after a rude awakening.

This is a fantastic site, probably the best on the internet, and I've not only done that tour of duty but saw (and participated, helped advance, I hope) online comms way back _before_ the internet.

It's _very_ rare that you get the mix of community, good information, personality, freedom of speech without boredom, etc. that's here. Usually when a site gets this good some agent provocateur gang comes in and stomps all over it with useless noise, rendering it miserable for all the regulars, soon after which the community dies (I suspect there's _one_ frat house somewhere outside of Cleveland responsible for all such occurrences, btw).

Anyways, all, plain-speakers and schizos alike, thanks for the many years of greatness, keep it up, don't let the losers get to you or in your way, remember that fame and wealth, like sex, are mostly in your head (and you have control over what's in your head, so make of it whatever you want; you're the sexiest, most famous, wealthiest person on the planet today, walk around and feel all that, then go make some music with your sense of that power -- as YOU have defined it -- behind you).

And never forget to keep a good jokes thread going on a regular basis. You never know, it might be the thing that saves the planet by accident.

Best,

rt

I've only been here about a year or so, so I gotta ask...

k, do you have a "thing" for kitties? I mean, I think they're cute and cuddly and funny as hell when you're stoned (or they are), but... um.... er.... well, to each his own, I guess :}

As far as pictures go, the one in my profile is definitely me (if it wasn't why the hell would I put such an ugly mug up to identify me?), and with all the honesty that goes on around here [....i'd rather watch paint dry than listen to that track again, etc.... ] I'm surprised more people haven't posted mugshots.

I mean, come on, do you really think your music is better and more "mysterious" if people dont' know what you look like? Even if that's the case, is that how you want to make your music more intriguing? This isn't directed at anyone in particular, just food for thought...

By the way, I do NOT surf the net unless I'm getting directions on mapquest or reading forums here. 'Nuff said. k, you da man and continued success...

*heh*

Who knows, if I end up working with Influx I'll get a funky arty b/w pic up of him at our webhole too..

Shit, if he actually comes over to the UK I'll *have* to get a pimpin' expose' photo of him and the girlies (provided he keeps his hands out of mischief at all times!!!)

I saw a picture of K when beta testing the new DT. Cool looking dude. I can see why the police would tail him.

Marc, you gonna work with Influx. Good move for both of you. But the photo op? You know you can take a photo of him alone in front of a black backround, then take a seperate photo of the girls in front of a black backround and put the 2 together in the darkroom so it looks like they all were happy together.

Sitar you KNOW I couldn't do that... ;)

He'd KILL me if he missed the chance for a photo op. with the laydeez..   not that it wasn't hard enough getting promo pix of us lot as it was.. yep, muggins here had to sit looking all semi-serious and stoopid in pix before they agreed to have any taken... sheesh!! But its all for a good cause so...

And how about a pic of you Sit-meister?

Yeah - haven't talked about a collab. much since his move but I'm working on some material he can hopefully contribute to, so...

xoxos put a pic of me that I emailed him for that purpose up once in a thread everyone was putting their mugs up on. I think you needed an ftp address from where to post it at the time and I don't have one. If I come across it I'll put it up. I think it's on my old puter still. BTW, I tried to email you. The cd must've gotten lost between UK and US (maybe it's in the UN :P ). Sorry that you took the time to do that for naught. Maybe someone else is enjoying it anyway.

Grrr... that's annoying! Hmmm well here's hoping the Darkstate CDs don't go the same way..

There should be some more pix going up soon... I'm almost getting past my abject shyness, but I'd much rather get other peoples on camera instead!!

I've gotten other cds from UK Dters, so it's probably an exception. Wouldn't worry. Although didn't you and friends come to NY when Lia couldn't make it and tried to get in touch with me? I remember staying home expecting your call, and you guys called but got some other number. Must be some karma with us. Anyways karma exists to be changed.

Yeah - was kinda fuzzed about that.. had been lurking on DT for ages, and with Lia's help had gotten in touch with hedz and then kinda fumbled the ball... NYC ruled though and another trip is definately on the cards (PC and Studio upgrade not withstanding)

Can always do with more holidays, gotta wait until October before I get to go abroad again...

I remember Lia talking about the mysterious Marc who lingered at DT and she was trying to get you to post. Now you post and she's disapeared. Where is that girl? Maybe you and Lia are the same person, kinda like Clark Kent and Superman who were never seen at the same time. I think I'm on to something here. Mild mannered Marc takes his glasses off and turns into the wild and beautiful Lia.

That would be a great theory were it not for the fact that you've seen us both - and there's very little chance of me ever looking like her curlyness!!

Communication is a bit rare at the moment - I know she's been given one hell of a promotion but it means more time on the road (you'd think she'd be able to delegate or something!) - hence her decision to give Darkstate a break

Marc_D

(heh this Edit thing is cool!)

I just thought to add.. how the FKKK did you know I needed glass Sit? Just got a new prescription from the opticians last week after I lost the previous pair whilst on a week long sesh in the 'dam!! *heh* Them Northern Lights iz nize..

True. It is a stretch. I saw a pic of Lia in the same thread everyone was posting their pics in. She wasn't in the pictures on your site though was she??? Influx mentioned her being there but I didn't see her unless she went by a different name. Happy for her promotion.

I wanted to include her pic, but she asked me not to on account of her not being involved much any more... I know she's got your email address but when USA.Net shut down the freemail, she must've lost her account - I'll ask her to drop you a line...

She can't be *that* busy...

my cat chippy (rip) had kittens when she was like, 10 months old or something. Apparently my parents thought 'she' was a 'he' untill one day she squeezed out a few mini-chippys on the kitchen floor. And god bless my brother for putting them in a carrier bag and swinging them round his head, how nice of him.

Thats a sweet looking whatever it is anyway k.

and all the mini-chippys survived into adulthood in case you were wondering.

How old was your brother?

I hope he realises what he did isn't normal, only complete f**ckwits are (knowingly) cruel to animals.

he would`ve been about 4 at the time and he knows that wasn`t normal, but then he`s never been all that normal. It was just a kid thing I guess, our house has never been a good place ot be in if you don`t like animals.

He even has 2 cats of his own now that he treats like children.
