What are these 'ghost hits' that I keep hearing mention of.

Regards.

Steve.

yeah, drummers do this to add a groovey felling. There easy enough to program in a seq. Just use a lower velocity that the main hits. like around 1/3 the vel. of the main hits, or whatever fits the mix. A good examople is house music. The claps and open hats usualaly do this. Put a clap hit a few beats before or after the 2 and 4 hits It sounds good

Gotcha! That's something I have actually been doing for a couple of years, but didn't know it had a name.

Cheers!

Steve.

yeah like in the classic funky drummer style breaks/playing, where the drummers drops the stick on the snare in ghost offbeats between 8th-note hi-hat strikes.

Ghosts sound nice as sort 32nds ond 16th too. That's what teh accent funtion is for on drum machines. Not just on snares, but in general. Like quiet flams and flamadiddles and paradiddles and such. Drumming rudiments. Theory stuff. s'good!!

add pitch to velocity so the quieter the snare the higher pitched it is. this forms nice ghost hits, they sound more like the drummer hitting the rim. try to compress to get that crack on the main snare, but compress the kick so it thuds.

in funky beats the drummer often plays the snare ghoist hits and the hat as offbeats against each other, like alternating between the two as 16ths so the snare ghosts tend to go between the hat strikes as offbeats to get the rolling sound betwen the hat and snare ghost hits
