can you program as many songs as you need for live performance on 3.5

As many as it'll fit. I used to use one of these, and I had to reload in the middle of my set. I think I got 4-6 songs max into it.

She wasn't a bad "push play and let it go" type sequencer either..

it's all down to the material - use/record/store/playback alot of controller data and memory get's guzzled up on h/w sequencers - do your twiddling live with a controller or on the actual units - save alot of memory for NOTE data instead.

Y'know - sequencers like that specify xx songs total 35,000 notes or whatevever, but controller data steals away memory that can be used to store notes

Yeah, at the time I wasn't using much in the way of CCs. And I was only driving a CS1X, Akai S2000, and Kawai K5000 off it.. So I'm talking only maybe 5-6 channels of MIDI.

If I may suggest, an RM1X has a huge memory and can be had for around $250US secondhand..
