After 8 years running on a Pentium 4 on Windows XP I've finally decided to upgrade. So I've bought myself a new hexacore PC running Windows 7 Profeshnial.

Predictably enough half my old programs wont install, such as Wavelab.

More annoyingling, my old M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard doesnt seem to work that well in the machine. Time to replace it.

So, can anyone recommend on a profeshnial style soundcard that is fully compatible with Windows 7, tried and tested, works just fine thanks.

It doesnt need to be anything complex. I need just stereo LR in/out jacks and also a MIDI interface too.

Theres a crisp five pound note for anyone who succesfully recommends a good, reliable quality product*.

* not true.

Oh the joys of technology just done the same myself.............sound cards been an issue (as yet not resolved) also current midi interface is not supported by drivers for windows 7.

But by the hell does my porn look better on a 20" screen

Although I dont think its the same problem. I'm not getting pops or clicks. I'm getting constant high pitched interference, which sounds like its noise from the PCs fan. When my screen updates the noise changes.

Its as if its getting interference straight from the processor.

I could be the computer, its brand new. But I cant prove that unless I swap out the soundcard. If I get the same noise then I know its not that. And expensive thing to do.

AH - did u try changing slots? did u try a tin foil wrapped around cardboard sheild between gpu and soundcard?

if u in central Londinium anytime (sloane sq) i can lend you a few to try - i've got a esp1010 which isnt getting use right now, and emu 1820m sittin on the shelf

I'm on contract down in Worthing, officially the arse crack of England. The chances of me getting back to the shiney lights of old chokey are pretty slim for the time being. But thanks for the offer.
