but you know me. i've been known to be totally wrong. the first part is tribal. second part is....i don't know, other. i think it's a nice track.

http://www.7161.com/css_track.cfm?track__dt_track_id=20390

things to listen for. the delay i put on the snare in the first part, the tribal portion and the snare fills. how the snare delay syncopates in the 2 bar break at the end of part 1 against the voices. the vocal parts i broke up to make the tribal call in the first part. the introduction of the squelchy tb-like synth (made in Pentagon I) and how it becomes the bass in part two. the doubling of the vocal line in part two.

yeah thats a latiny groove mate, i'd like to hear the metalic snare in part-1 a tad deader tho or vary the deadness.

do you lisen to dubstep at all sitar?

i've listened to some dubstep k. not a lot. i like it and what a lot of people do with it melodically.

i'll give your idea on the snare a try. i intentionally went for the metallic sound. it's very similar to a track Orbital did. i think it was called "I Wish I Had Duck Feet" or something like that, if that's the right track. might be nicer to take the edge off the snare in this piece.

well i'm not saying maybe every snate hit, but after a while it's consistancy of decay starts to sound very 'sample-y' & a tad dominant (only slightly) - i just think some variety of sustain might be cool.

have a listen when you get a moment. reuploaded the newly edited track. i toned the original snare down a tad and added another lower pitched warmer snare. they alternate. works nicely against the snare fills. thanks for the suggestion k! i hope what i did is in some way what you meant. if not....that's a big D'OH on my part!

i reuploaded Long Legged Woman, the track with the edgy guitar. It starts with the guitar break now.

i made this little dubstep loop in logic. the mix is pants and the kik is weedy, but it's quicky

k's dubstep mess about loop

i love the genre cos it's so synth/sequencer/fx orientated. the amount of work which goes into the good tracks is superb

nice. i like the way the bass does a 3 and a 6 then sounds like 3 notes in almost a 7 as if to catch up to the beat again. nice swing to it. i like the long verb tail on the snare. i haven't listened to much dubstep but i'm pretty sure i know exactly what you mean. i've heard some really nice synth/sequencer/fx stuff. very pretty stuff. yesterday i chuckled as i thought how in a way it's a lot like the choruses you hear in some of the nicer drum & bass tracks. i thought people write nice choruses in d&b so you'll put up with all the drum crap to hear the choruses.

a woman asked me to write a track based on the eartha kitt song "at last". she'll do a voice reading of the lyrics and i'll use them in the track. i first thought of a reggae beat but changed my mind. i'm going to try to do a dubstep version. the original song is in a slow 3/4 feel so i have to make it work within a 4/4 framework. it could turn out really nice or be a total trainwreck. i want to listen to more dubstep today.

oh goodie. was a great suggestion to change it up k. thank you. the new snare is a led zep emulation snare from sonar's session drummer. i tuned it up a note or two then put the same echo delay on it. i eq'd both snares. toned down the original and actually toned up the new one a bit. for delays i almost always us sonitus which also comes bundled with sonar. on the left side i have a dotted 1/2 delay. on the right a 4 beat delay. same for both snares.

i need to figure out how to make a dubstep synthbass next. no rest for the weary.

k, intro to a rendition of the song At Last. i think this would pass for a dubstep-like bass? i made it in Pentagon I. i remember doing a review for this synth back in the day. was my first, maybe only, review. comes bundled with Sonar now. what comes around goes around. the beats probably aren't dubstep. i have to listen to the genre some more but these beats work for the track thus far.

it's a wide genre sitar, tbh it's pretty much anything electronic dubwise to my ears

thanks for posting those k. good to know it's a wide genre. the first sounds like reggae. the second sounded like middle age ireland or something. i'm really liking the stuff i'm hearing. very creative and the more open to ideas the better.

here's another i did last night in Logic - this time the filter on the bass is being modulated by a sidechain pattern from another synth AND also there is layered filter moves on top in automation, just a ruff loop.

dubstep loop (king david horns)

ah there's a problem at the end o the horn riff which has echo - out of time with the bass filter lick, well summinks out neway

that is an awesome, excellent, and interesting bass you made k. i was reading a bit about creating dub basses. one producer said something like, the bass is the soul of dub so if you're bass has no soul the song is probably not going to be very good. your bass here definitely has soul. others believe it's best to use samples from real basses as opposed to synth basses. thanks again k. this is all helping me to get a real and wider picture of things. awesome job on that bass mate.

dub is deep the wobble is kinda percussion riffs & classic dub delay pattern rhythms really i spose. 3's over 4's etc

i just saw your comment there. i listened again and i think i hear what you're talking about. still it's very slight. i doubt it would be noticed but maybe it takes away from the dynamic of the riff. awesome stuff k.

my dub bass wobble so far sounds like Curly from the three stooges.

and that marks an improvement.
