Here is what you need to do
(in the FZ's menu):
PLAY--> Effect/MIDI--> MIDI Function--> and enable "AREA" in receive. When it is set to basic all areas in a bank respond to the same MIDI channel. When area is selected, each area of a bank will respond to the corresponding MIDI channel.
Good luck,
Mike

if there is any inexpensive SCSI upgrade
available. I would like, for instance,
to transfer samples from an external Zip
drive instead of using the FZ's floppy
drive. Is an adaptor cable available, and would software be needed?

I don't believe the FZ-10M has a SCSI port (it uses the same DB25 connector like the FZ1). Just for the record the FZ20M does have SCSI.
There is no cable that allows you to connect a SCSI Zip.
The only alternatives I can think of are to get a copy of Andreas Goransson's FZ File Transfer Utility (a nice program that uses MIDI) or Jeff McClintock's FZ-Dump (DOS version supports FZ-MIDI Dump Cable). Jeff's site seems to down at the moment but Andreas' site can be found at:
http://hem.passagen.se/highpuls/index.htm
Andreas' site has some great information on it, and is well worth the visit.
If you want a copy of Jeff's FZ-Dump just send me an e-mail and I'll e-mail you a copy.
Just for the record, both programs are freeware.
Good luck, Mike

I tried sending you an email at your
address, Notelt@Juno.com, but got a failure notice. Therefore I am posting
the letter on this forum.
Thanks much for the info. Your geocities
site is excellent. I would greatly
appreciate if you or any else could
answer some additional questions:
1) Does the McClintoch PC-FZ Dump Cable
Box use the FZ's DB25 parallel port or MIDI port?
2) Is this cable a faster method than the "Goranssions FZ-File transfer
utility via MIDI you described?
3) Where can I purchase the McClintoch
cable or obtain DIY plans to build
one?
4) Would it be possible (or be worth the
time & effort) to connect a Parallel
Zip drive or parallel CD-ROM drive
(if such an animal exists) to the
FZ's parallel port, and write some
Optional software for the FZ that
would at least allow 1-way sample
"dumps" from the Zip or CD to the FZ?
The Zip or CD drive would be controlled by the FZ front panel via
the Optional software. This would be
excellent for live performance; and
the Zip or CD-R files would be edited
and organized on a PC left at home.
Also, how much faster would the ZIP
or CD drive transfer be compared to
the FZ internal floppy drive?
Thanks very much.

copy of the Casio "Conversion tool from
Object File to FZ-1 Program File" program disc? I believe this is used
along with a compiler to write optional
software for the FZ. Much thanks. Vic.
