OHMSSBassline4_1.mp3

okaaay... anybody up for "guess that synth"?

attached file is the bassline from Propellerhead´s On Her Majestys Secret Service, and what a mighty bassline it is. i decided to recreate the patch just to see what it is, and have gotten relatively decent results. anybody wanna guess how its done? post your comments/guesses here.

(disclaimer: the following is just for fun, i´m not asking you to make me a patch or anything. it is meant as a fun test)

cheers, m.

sounds like a gritty saw/square..maybe a channel overdriven, with an envelope follower, and a slap bass sound underneath

or perhaps its just the slap bass overdriven

This is interesting! That is the EXACT sound that I am trying to emulate when I want cool in-your-face bass sounds on a synth. Looking forward to the answer...

cheers, m.

I did a bass similar to that on my Nova. Here's what I used:

2 oscillators, one a double saw with no phase shift, the other one noise (just a little burst with an env to get the attack puffy).

2 notch filters in series with small offset in their Fc's (Filter Width 16 on the Nova, whatever that is). Resonance pretty high but not whistling. Filter overdrive full on. A little attack modulation on the cutoff freq and filter width (same env as the noise burst actually) to flavor.

Pretty close, with the main difference being the silky quality of the Nova's filters. I really want a Nord. Am I close, m?

post yours m! see how feckin close you are!

shall i try too? only one real synth and i'm no patcher ... just a low bass note from any old synth with a sampled bass note detuned by a couple of octaves on top. bit of a phaser over that. i'll use one of those free vst synths i got from some kind fellow.

no influx, thats the original.

i did mine using something similar what beds described: two ringmodded squares playing very low on top of a sine wave. and overdrive, od course.

really curious about hearing yours psyllichon, i thought there must be several ways to get to that sound.

ok... i´ll post mine soon, would be cool if someone else did the same :>

sounds like a Hohner clavinet bass-end to me running thru a distortion unit & mebbe some filter to round it out.

bass_game_01.mp3

ok there's my first effort. ^ can you tell i'm bored? it's a clavinet bottom end with a es1 bass underneath to fill it out. bit of distortion on the clav sound. it's close, but not really there.
