I was working for the Princes Trust last week, and there was a blind girl on the course who works with Cakewalk - we got into a discussion about screen readers, and she was wanting to know if SONAR can use one - It seems that these 'readers' can speak out what parameter you have highlighted as you move around the programme using key commands... you can use one with MS Word for example, and she uses one now I think with Cakewalk 9 (i guess it's V9 anyways)

is this possible Mr Cakewalk?

Sonar works pretty well with screen readers until you get into the audio track editing buisness... it's just too grapic and sonar doean't support dicriptives. The work on that would be immense... Most blind producers MUST have a sighted engineer unless they use CWpro 9.

Tell her to look at "CakeTalking" which is produced by a company called "Dancing Dots"

http://www.dancingdots.com/prodesc/caketalk.htm

It's a shell basically that does the discriptives for JAWS (JAWS is the most widely used screen reader on the market). It works with cakewalk pro audio 9.0 and I do not believe it's Windows XP compatible (not sure anymore). I hear Dancing Dots is doing a Sonar product as well, won't be out for a few months at least.

This is a big issue among the disability community. NO other sequencing software is supported AT ALL for the blind (that I'm aware of, and I know a lot about these things). The other companies should get in on it... Stevie Wonder told me would pay a million for seemless sequencing like that.

hehehe

I'm an Assistive Technology specialist by day, techno head by night! My job is to give people information on disability technology.

I do a lot of work all over California with Assistive Technology designers and vendors... so it's literally, my specialty!

Cheers

although reading posts obviously isn't my specialty! Sorry K, read it again... sounds like she's already using CW, Spaced that entirely! DUH!

Well, yeah... so, um... by the end of the year Dancin' Dots should support Sonar!

problem with all those drugs in the 80's/90's, sometimes a little slow on the uptake!

yeah, Cool Errata.... must be a rewarding job!

she told me all about JAWS... apparently, there is some guy in the uk who works in a library who writes specialised add-on's for various programmes where no general support is available, but she said it takes ages to write and he doesn't get paid for it...

Yes, it's what she told me, that only Cake supports this of all the sequencers which I beleive is due to it's windows based protocol...

fascinating stuff anyways, she certainly was a good writer, a great songsmith!

Eratta's post pretty much covered it. Thanks.

Yes SONAR is currently the best sequencing program available for the visually impaired. We actually won an award for it 2 years ago.

It seems we have the market cornered on visually impaired artists.

Ray Charles
Kevin Kern
Marcus Roberts
Diane Schuur

I even heard that Stevie Wonder has it on his laptop, but I can't conirm it.
