Subject: an oldie (really)

in other words we were a punk band.
and yet our music was a little different because the main songwriter was a keyboardist who could barely play (his moog prodigy and casio mt-40
driven through a flange and distortion pedal) but wrote some pretty interesting stuff.
sometimes it wasn't even punk but no one was sure. no one cared but they listened. even jello biafra said we were his favorite sd band at the time.
one song i used to actually sing onstage was called you stand before me~
it became rather an anthem about miscommunication.
this, i wrote about a best friend who seemed to enjoy arguing with me... NIGHTLY.....about politics.
he used to love to see me get angry and this was becoming unsettling to me and i announced at one point we needed to either chill or let's just call it the day.
after all> i enjoy an intellectual fist-fight as much as the next moron.....but not on a daily basis.
and not with the same....person.
since we were old surfing buddies it hurt when he came over the NEXT night and decided he cared-less what i thought...or my wife at that time....and wanted to go on about how great america was going to be with reagan in office.
well....i threw him out finally....and wrote this song the next day.
it has always stayed with me....as it's one of the few songs i can actually play and almost sing at the same time.
the theme is rather universal. it's about people not understanding each other.
i saw him out in the water a few times after that. we never really hung out after those years. i was being branded a communist.....and well....whatever. i will always stand for the underdog.
of course this resulted in attracting violence and trouble as the band grew in visibilty.
i have stories which i may share later. i don't know.
the original version used to have a chord change which i excluded for sake of electro-grooviness but i'm thinking of doing a more piano-ish version truer to the spirit of what it sounded like 2 decades ago.....for sake of documentation...and because it's a pretty song.
okay....so that's that.
hope you can enjoy some aspect of my 2003 mixes.

it certainly was not my first go-round with the issue of misunderstanding.
i was experiencing those a lot of fronts as was the world around. and people were dying as a result.
at some point it was just about people......it was about everyone.

is that first 303-ish synth playing the guitar melody? hehe...
i wish you'd post the original or something from your band dude, i would have probably liked it once upon a time.

anyway...the band recorded approximately eight songs.....out of approximately nearly twenty over two years.
see me hang
war tecHnology
won't fight thEIR wars
stupidity zone
system of innocence
defend greed
i read a book
kids today
and i turn and....
etc.
we got daytime play here on sd radio when it switched to an alternative format which nearly got the dj fired.
we appeared on mexican television.
we played univerities in sd and baja.....and clubs and halls around the city.
we were jello biafra's fave sd band. so what's this mean today? not much.
my singer's wife ran off with our masters and i've never seen or heard of them since. i just move on.....
occasionally looking back. and like i said...even if i got those tapes....you stand before me~wasn't on them.
it's why i consider redoing it again...after all these weeks.
thanks for your interest and allowing me to share.

my life's never been that organized.
sometimes i think it's a pity but dusting the archives just ain't me. i mean....
that's a lot of dust my man.
we almost got signed by a local punk label. but we didn't. i'm glad.
otherwise that would've stuck with me more than me even talking about it here today at dt.
the next band..dogs with masks almost got signed too. but they didn't.
glad about that too as we all started to learn to not like each other greatly.
funny how that works. but it's good too. otherwsie you're kinda stuck doing the same things over and over.
god bless electronic music.
now THAT's freedom.
