Ok nothing to do with anything but hopefully you can help. At work the manager has asked me to find out how we can get the company website link higher up on the search engine resutls page. I have absolutely no idea how to do this as I no less about the internet than I do about anything else (left to your imaginations), can anyone point me in the right direction pleeease?

do some research on 'search engine optimization'

typically you'd be charged a few hundred quid for this on top of a design job on your company website.

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

lets be honest though, it's about being on Google. And to get hits on Gogle you need to have your companies web page linked from well ranked websites. There are devices out there to tell you how cool to tell you there sites are

Not many short term fixes for this - illegal shortcuts tend to be found out eventually and Goggle punts you for trying. Try thinking up a good reason to have clients link to you and try to get them to use the same link, I suggest /index

Long term you need to have your clietns/users putting your home page link on their website, the more cool (or well ranked they are) the higher your page will hit in the google result. Without restructuring your company philosophy I would suggest giving shit away for free under a program that makes them link, or have a formal link relationship, try universities is thats relevant cos they normally have good ranks

Making lots of links on your site wont make so much differernce and makes your sitelook like a porn ring

As usual I know little of what I am talking about and overheard this from an angry boss trying to tell me how to do my job

I do recomend getting some pro's in if you have money cos this is an important but complex topic which is in flux and easy to get wrong - so "spend to save" in this area
