Subject: Cubase 4 vs Sonar 6 (with Virus Ti )
Original Message 1/19 25-May-07 @ 09:22 PM - Cubase 4 vs Sonar 6 (with Virus Ti )
I came accross a thread on the virusti.com site talking about compatibilty issues with the virus ti and sonar 6.
Now Im a little unsure about what to do. Im getting one of the carillon packages from soundcontrol which includes sonar 6 as the sequencer but they said that cubase might cost quite a bit more and suggested that Sonar would be easier to get used to than cubase. What do you think?
As I dont have any indepth knowledge of either (just the demo of Sonar 6) I was wondering if anyone has any experience with perhaps both sequencers or certainly anyone using sonar 6 with the virus ti, as reading the above thread has put doubts in my mind about sonar 6.
What would you go for and why?
Thanks very much for any advice

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

Works with Cubase SX3. Doesnt work with Logic, kind of works with abelton (but not really)
You should be prepared to test the Ti with a demo verion of sonar encase the store doesnt take backopened software....

Andrew was a beta tester for them and they say that using the ti with a pci-usb card is standard issue. There's a big diff with the above problems using G5 this way. They should really put it on paper in the manual, but it seems its an expectancy in pro audio to stay off the on board usb slots
Im using it now with sx3 on pc, with the o.s2 and it works well, but its still a work in progress -
the kicker is, its really no more solid in traditional midi (yes its 2007) when using the hypersaw oscilators...and thats a hardware problem from what i understand. If i wasnt using the usb and wanted a quick and dirty VA id take a C over it anyday of the week. Problem is it just sounds really really good when it is behaving itself

Never tried sonar so id try with a demo version before taking the wrapper off...

It seems like there are some latency issues with when using it with sonar, and apparantly sonar is not officially supported by access yet. Heres the link where I read it:
Virus Ti latency issue
There are more links within this link talking about the issues
Im still not sure what to do. Sonar 6 seems to have a lot of fantastic new features (notably the ACT) and seems very user friendly. This is quite important for me as Im going to be learning both things at the same time (not ideal I know) but hey. However its no good if it isnt compatible or could give me latency problems. What are your thoughts on cubase userfriendliness for a newb?

its the ideal for me - it has latency plug compensation and is pretty damn stable (i use sx3 not the new 4 though)
I used protools for 3 years before hand and switched to sx when the vst boom came about, and i think its probably unrivalled in what you can do with audio alongside the midi tracks. (abeltons still king for timestretching loops though)
BUT, i do alot of audio cuting, splicing, reversing and edits etc onto the audio tracks (everything/instruments etc get bounced to audio), whereas alot of people keep everything in midi....
One of those things where you just have to try the demos and find the best thats suiting what you do, although admitedly the TI will shorten this list . You could use it in Midi mode meanwhile until it is supported in your final choice of sequencer if you did really dig Sonar.
