i love this overall. one thing that i am not fond of is the flute melody or whatever the melody is played by. to my ear it doesn't go along with the piano arpeggio harmony and i love the piano in this. that's a matter of taste though. i love the running bass line and the drums. the volume levels seem like they could be better in parts though. shortly after 5:30, i think, there seems to be a compression issue like there is too much compression. the piece and the ideas/imagination are excellent.

Cheers folks,

Feel like i'm getting to grips with things a little better.

Would love to take credit for the drums but unfortunately can't.
They're sampled drums constructed with MIDI.

As regards the toon itself it is essentially only bass drums and piano.
The odd effects are thrown in and occasional melody for a little colour (hence the clarinet / oboe.)

Bearing in mind its only bass "sampled" drums and piano - i can't help but feel i have only 2/3rds ownership, however there would have been nothing without the piano.

Cheers again for listening

Martyn

ok now i can listen louder i hear a volume modulating up and down in the intro section, like a dodgy compressor setting

Hi K
Cheers for the comments, very encouraging.
I have very limited skills when it comes to the production (or anyhting else TBH.)
I have never encountered this problem until recently when i started using EZ Drummer, great samples, but on every track I get a weird modulation.
Its really quite frustrating and on several occasions i have abanded work.
Surely a single audio track shouldnt fuck up the whole mix, however no matter what i do the modulation is there when the track is rendered.
When i play the track in Sonar all is well.
If i understood a little how the compressor works it might help. Time to research.
Cheers again M

Hi Captain K
Have reloaded the track with no compression - the only alteration to any of the original tracks consists of reverb, eq, and a little modulation and the guitar ran through an amp simulator (thats about it)
We would really appreciate any comment or advice you can give to help the mix.
Many thanks Martyn

ok there is some VERY severe deep bass on some stuff, (piano and pad i think) which could be freekin the compressor out (if u were adding a comp over the mix) - i think get the bass under control a bit on some of the stuff,.. check the LOW bass on all tracks and find the cause. mix works better for me with the bottom end rooled off from 120hz down... not too steep, so something playing in that range is a bit over-loaded
