Has any heard about this new Yamaha sampler. It's a cross between a sampler, tone generator, 42 track sequencer, and drum machine. Apparently it has SCSI as standard, digital I/O, separate outs, 64 voices, up to 64 meg, an AWM2 synth, and a ribbon controller. I saw this on an American site where they said it will sell for $1500 (us).

It was on a page called Harmony Central. I'm not sure the address, but you could probably use a search engine. It was a whole page report from NAMM. They said it would ship from September. It's mainly being aimed at Hip Hop producers, but anyone could use it. Theres a function where you can convert samples to 12 or 8 bit. This appeals to me, I love the sound of the old 12bit samplers. If the screen's the same size as the one on the QY700, it should be wicked. I keep checking the Yamaha page, but it's not there yet.

So what gear's new? Coming soon, the Yamaha SU700 sampler/sequencer/synth/drum machine. I haven't seen
what it looks like, but judging by the specs it should be one mad machine. I have an idea Yamaha are releasing
this to compete with Akai's MPC2000 and Ensoniq's ASRX. They should be able to out-do these two... Here are
some of the specs- Up to 64mb of ram, 64 voices, SCSI, multiple outputs, adjustable data
format (8, 12 or 16 bit which should be great for emulating the sound of old grungey samplers like the S900),
an onboard AWM2 tone generator (synth), a ribbon controller and lots more. More info later...
