shit?, please say some objetive reasons.....I think this
machine is G-R-E-A-T!!!, after all what sampler offers
you all those features in the price range the ASR does?
Please donīt be so blind!
The ESI is a fine tool with really amazing filter power, but
I still think that the ASR give you more for your buck.
The resampling feature alone is enought reason to buy
one, also powerfull filters and FX.
My only complaiment when it was released was the lack
of pattern mode and sequence chaining, but both was
added in the latest operative system (v2.5), so the machine
is actually one of the most complete tools for groove-
-based music, a great compositional piece of gear.
The ESI gives you more poly and memory, but lacks the
pattern sequencer (believe me, computers canīt touch
this) and the resampling power.
But I love E-mu anyway, so I think you canīt go wrong
with the 4000......but not with an AKAI.
I donīt know what people see in AKAI samplers!, I canīt
understand it!.........weak filters.......no more expansion
options that other manufacturers (and there are nothing
out of this world)......I donīt know.....also the soooooo
aclamed MPC2000 canīt mapped a sample in a cromatic
way via MIDI!!!!...you can believe that????!!!!!!!!....you
canīt play a simple bassline with your sample from a MIDI
keyboard!!!!!......thatīs no my idea of a "Music Production
Center" .....itīs yours?

If I decide to use a kit from a sample CD, I'll edit all of the sounds in Sound Forge, save them to my HD, and have the ASR-X load them up through the scsi chain.
Also, you can add an internal scsi zip drive to the ASR-X. Rubber Chicken Software has this available. They are also working on an editor for the ASR-X.
If you are doing any type of dance music, I would strongly recommend the ASR-X with the Urban Dance card, SCSI, and the Output X-pander.

The ASR-X is a lame duck. When I had it it burped out sysex very un-smooth. I couldn't believe there was NO way to chain sequences together. The ASR-X is like the MC-303 of sapling. The fucking ad for it in this months keyboard has a mime in it. A MIME !!! That's a sure way to sell to the targeted dance-kiddie market.
All in all, the only strengths the ASR-X really has are as follows:
sample mapping to keys
better fx
That's it boys and girls. I have real world tested 'em and they just don't compare at all. Have you heard of midi slop ? If you're getting all of your sounds from one box as both machines are marketed, then there is NO way you are going to get remotely tight sequences. Hell, my MPCs' (2000 and 3000) kick Logic's ass. You guys don't know shit. Have fun.

mpc!!!! Just rout the note number to the sample your
wanting to trigger from your key board. You can't
multisample but you can make coppies and tune.
