Hi there to anyone who is so nice as to give
some advice about this one :
i have an sy77 and no complaints about the
synthesis engine itself ( though FM is a puzzling
way of synthesis). The trouble is with my Floppy
Disk Drive.
I first noticed that when i tried to load some of
my oldest .ALL files, the disk was recognized
as a BAD DISK. First i thought the disk was in
fact corrupted, but then it started happening
more often, even with newly formatted and
recently saved files. The only way i can
sometimes recover the information is by
loading Voice & Multi, and then Song & Pattern,
but this happens oddly.
Now i think it could be that the Disk Drive is
faulty or, in a better case, that the magnetic
head is dirty.
Is there any way to know what is the source
of this trouble?
In case it was the Drive: How could i clean the
magnetic head ? Should i replace the whole
drive ? Can i find the proper device ?
Should i turn my SY into plastic syrup and buy
a Yamaha Portasound ?
Thanks in advance

Rijkaard

Well, i must thank you blokes, i recovered most of my
"lost" songfiles, though there were some i couldn't, I
suppose it's because the "saving" process was done in a
bad way. I just dared to use a cleaner disk (i hate'em)
and it worked flawlessly.
KILO you seem to be one of my kind.
Sure the RY has a killer programming engine:
*)15 voices poly (fair number just for rythms)
*)2 waves(16bit 48kHz) per voice each with independent:
Pan
Volume Coarse & Fine tuning
EG for filter and volume
EG for Pitch
Velocity response ( affecting vol, pitch or filter)
Configurable HPF or 12dB LPF or 24dB LPF (+ Resonance)
*)95 user writeable internal voices
*)31 user writeable card voices
*)174 internal/card waves
*)real time control of pitch decay pan filter wave balance
through springwheel , over-recordable
*)step recording/edition of any of these parameters
*)Wavecard compatibility between SYcards and RYcards
*)12 Velocity sensitive configurable pads
*)17 pad banks
*)4 assignable outputs, for extenal processing
*)Footswitch controller
*)extensive pattern related editing capabilities
*)100 user patterns + 100 preset
*)20 songs up to 999 parts each

the antique's corner: MagneticTape output (not a joke!)

bad side: no internal effects processor

I share my sy cards between the RY and SY without a single
bug. I deeply recommend this rhytm tank, it has never let
me down. I use it as my main rythm generator, together
with an Alesis D4 and my PC triggering drumloops.
To have an idea of how the RY sounds, listen to Curve's
drums (i'm not saying they have one, i don't know), though
it lets you create some Machinelike patts to the most
natural one you can imagine (i never use it this way).
