last night i was sitting down writing some drum stuff and i thought to myself...i should really start listening to more jazz drummers. cause it seems like every other day something i use is used all the time in jazz stuff. and i think i should learn something a bout it. so does anyone know what jazz drummers are worth listening to.

Of course there is more than technique to drumming - percusion instrument are all about expressiveness!
Oh, Ed Blackwell is absolutely great.
From the more contemprorary drummers, I really like Joey Baron, who plays with John Zorn and the Knitting Factory gang.

I couldn't fucking remember Joey Baron's name to save

it any good?I agree Dave Weckl does suck!Who's that
dixieland guy from New Orleans that plays w/ just about
everybody? Also check out recordings that feature
Charlie Hayden(spelling again) on bass he attracts
wicked drummers.

Bernard Purdy and Leon Parker...both smoking drummers...Leon Parker is more recent, but really innovative...he plays a really stripped down kit but gets lots of crazy textures out of it. He's got this crazy version of Epistrophy on this album "Above and Below".

Bernard Purdy I first heard on this album called "King Curtis Live" - really really good funk drummer.
