They'll keep an eye on the protest organizers for future reference but they will probably discount a large proportion of the protesters saying things like"Of course we take heed of your protest,we're a listening democracy" which basically means "shout and bawl all you like because you don't really matter that much unless you riot or strike,at which point we will set the dogs on you".
Maintaining an anti war opinion would be very hard work I suspect for many of the protesters,if we had nerve gas attacks on the tube, and radioactive waste being exploded in big cities. In such a case scenario I firmly believe the vast majority of people would be firmly behind government led military and police action all it takes is a few such incidents and people would be all for the government having full "lock up throwaway the key no questions asked" type powers. No single nation or culture can be allowed to hold the power over so many peoples lives to themselves.
If ever there was a need for a popular referendum, going to war is it,it is the most drastic decision that a country can make and if circumstances are so drastic that war is required we the people should be privy to those drastic circumstances and none of this national security bullshit(that comes from the same book as the term reasonably practicable). That is what the protestors should have at the least been asking for in my opinion.I mean we the people pay for the weapons, transport, and supplies,we the people supply the cannon fodder, and we the people bear the brunt of retaliation so surely we should be given accurate facts and solid evidence and then we should,as a nation in a national referendum, vote for yea or nay.Isn't that what free democracy is supposed to be like?
All this talk of "hawks" and "doves" and now "owls"(wise statesmen who want peace but will go to war if necessary but who want to prepare the ground thoroughly using diplomacy etc.)is tv marketing bullshit and is purely designed to manipulate public opinion into agreeing with war"that owl dude says we should attack and he's a wise guy who's into peace so it must be serious let's get into them".
The majority of those in power want war and war they will have unless they are actively stopped and I'm sorry to say cnd badges and protests don't make it.

Go tell that to Jesus..
Pict: 'Maintaining an anti war opinion would be very hard work I suspect for many of the protesters,if we had nerve gas attacks on the tube, and radioactive waste being exploded in big cities.'
I can't bring to mind the last time Iraq directly attacked or funded any terrorism on the UK or the US.. perhaps you could enlighten me?
Pict: 'If ever there was a need for a popular referendum, going to war...'
I seem to remember 'Not in our Name' being a common slogan at the protests...

So what do you suggest exactly? Don't bother, human shields, what?

More of the same, wrangle wrangle.
What's sad to me is that the US administration and Tony Blair have managed to take advantage of the deep hidden bigotry the western world harbors for muslims. It all comes down to Muslims knocked down the buildings, so Muslims are fair game, et al. And too many of us are thick headed enough that we don't see the manipulation. Really look at the "evidence"... there's nothing at all that shows Al Qaeda and Saddam working together. The most damning evidence is that some Al Qaeda members are living in Iraq! Well surprise, they live in the US too!!! And we have a much more definable since of control over our nation than Saddam has over his!
But no matter the circumstances there are too many sheep in this westernized world who feel that because "they're ragheads" they're all in the same bucket! Which is exactly the kind of thinking that made these terrorists able to rationalize killing Western civilians in their war against Western policy makers!
