Hey folks. I want to buy a second hand sampler suitible for drum n' bass. I think the esi-32 is pretty good. Should I buy a s-900 instead, to get a rawer type of sound, and pay half the price?

I have an emu esi-32 and it's a great machine. Excellent
build quality, top sound quality and a doddle to use.
At their new low price they are a bargain dude.

Ok... regards to an offer consisting of an EIV + 32MB + CDROM, for the same price as an E6400; ie: about £1800. The only trick is that the EIV's being sold off are the old ones that EMU want to get rid of. Before I invest 2K on the EIV, I want to be sure that there is no hidden clanger which would make me kick myself for not getting an E6400 (these two machines are the only players, so please,... no advise as to other samplers I could get). So there it is,.. the E6400 takes 72pin SIMMS, and the old (but brand new - if you understand) EIV's take 32pin SIMMS. I can get 32pin SIMMS easily and cheaply, so that in not really an issue. How about the question that these EIV machines might have been sitting on a shelf for a while. Is it gonna break down (along with me). I think its the EIVX or something that has superceded it. I asked EMU what is the difference between the two, and they said only the memory and the internal board design. Any impartial advise???????????Any clangers round mi corner??

I've had an e6400, and still have three EMAX's, two being in fucked, fucked, fucked-looking condition, but still I've had no problems. For the price you guys normally pay for an e6400, I'd take that EIV in a heart-beat. Great stuff, great OS, I still kick my k2000 every once in a while wishing it did stuff that my e6400 did. Oh, and it's totally software upgradeable, to the new V3 (with Sound Diver editor), so don't worry about age. Know why I sold the e6400? It was too powerful, I felt like a jerk for having it, thinking I could just keep the k2000. Now I'm looking for another one.

I'm already usin' an AWE. It sucks bigtime! A sampler has better soundquality, filters, and you can tweak samples without switching programs at your computer. It is hard to work if you can't tweak sounds at the same time you're usin' em'.
