You are all nuts, the SW1000XG should sell for about $150
US. They don't even publish the Signal to Noise ratio specs.

For some people that seem to know less about audio related stuff than the others of us, I just would like to explain that signal to noise ratio most often refers to the S/NR of the D/A or A/D converters. Of course, you can keep all signals in the digital domain, but if you would like to record something from the "real world" you must have an analogue microphone, and thus also an A/D converter, which will introduce a (hopefully) small amount of noise. Plus, if you ever want to hear what you've recorded, you need a D/A converter, since loudspeakers are analogue. The SW1000XG has got these converters, and therefore, it could be interesting to know the S/NR. If it's true or not is another story, but Yamaha is at least a more respectable and trustable company than Creative Labs, for instance.

Just to clear rhing up (info from yamaha site):

The card is a PCI XG wavetable/ hard disk recording/ multi effects processing card.

The audio specs are: Stereo 20 bit resolution ADC; Stereo 18 bit resolution DAC; Stereo 24 bit resolution internal processing (no info about s-n-ratio though...).

If you want to get more info about the card you can lookup yamaha.

lots of buzz about the s-n-ratio of the card, in the US site of Yamaha it says -90dB (and after it: "honest" ;)

I've actually handled a prototype of the SW1000XG at the recent Pro Audio Expo here in Singapore. It looks complete with the DSP already placed in and all the converters looking spanky. So i think that Yamaha will be able to keep to their Aug-Sep release date...

Keep your fingers crossed

Marc
