Subject: Cubase 4 vs Sonar 6 (with Virus Ti )
Original Message Date: 25-May-07 @ 09:22 PM - Cubase 4 vs Sonar 6 (with Virus Ti )
I came accross a thread on the virusti.com site talking about compatibilty issues with the virus ti and sonar 6.
Now Im a little unsure about what to do. Im getting one of the carillon packages from soundcontrol which includes sonar 6 as the sequencer but they said that cubase might cost quite a bit more and suggested that Sonar would be easier to get used to than cubase. What do you think?
As I dont have any indepth knowledge of either (just the demo of Sonar 6) I was wondering if anyone has any experience with perhaps both sequencers or certainly anyone using sonar 6 with the virus ti, as reading the above thread has put doubts in my mind about sonar 6.
What would you go for and why?
Thanks very much for any advice

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

I popped down the shop today and carillon are now doing the same package that includes Cubase studio 4 aswell as sonar. So looks like cubase is the one at the mo.
Just one thing, (perhaps in the wrong forum?!) anyone know how easy it is or if its possible to sidechain (eg kick and bass) in cubase studio4? I had a look on cubase.net in the forums but couldnt really find anything difinitive. One thread suggested you can not do it at all, another said that native sidechaining will be added soon and the actual cubase site itself says that in the VST3 plugin effects there is a
flexible gate with a sidechain input filter for ducking. Do you think thats enough for what I need? Its just that the information Ive found all seems to be contradictory.
I hope this isnt such a daft question, its just that I know Im gonna be sidechaining a lot so its pretty important to me that my sequencer has this capability.
Thanks!

We have just drawn in volume envelopes recently.
I dont know why someone into building/shareware etc hasnt copied Protools digidesign compressor and gate, both sidechainers, both easy as hell to work and both sound the nuts. putting a breakbeat through the gate over a pad took 30 secs and sounded amazing, same with the sidechaining compressor
