Hello to Waldorf users !!

I've ordered a Waldorf MicroQ, and I fear that my choice was a bad one.
It is possible to synchronize an LFO on the beat, in order to get a rythmic sound such as in "Legend B Lost in Love" ??
Worst : I've tried a Q rack and the retailer guaranteed the same sound !!! Now that I've read this forum, I'm scared to death !!! Is it really different in tone ? How far ? Can it be corrected usgin extra effects such as TC-Electronics Fireworx or the cheaper M300 ??
Best regards
Kazhul

Fear not, the LFO's are completely MIDI sync'able.
As far as the differences in tone go, they are subtle, for the most part. The big one sounds bigger, fuller and warmer, but not as loud. The Q will also do some tones that the uQ cannot, but for the most part (roughly 85%) they sound pretty much the identical. Your retailer was lying about them sounding exactly the same. Why would Waldorf make you pay more than double the cost for the exact same sound and just a few more knobs? Of course they are different. You get what you pay for, pay bigger, bigger warmer, stinkier sound and some tones, filtertypes and effects that the little one lacks. But they are fairly close in character, and I'm sure you will still be extremely impressed with the uQ. Enjoy.

Yes, you can clock any or all of your LFOs on the uQ, no sweat.

The biggest sound difference I discerned between big Q and my uQ is in the filters. What sounds nice & warm and fat on the full Q needs the cutoffs brought down and the reses boosted a bit to sound the same on the little guy. It's easier to get big Q to sound warm & fat.

The full Q also allows you to assign filter routing to LFOs or envelopes so it'll switch between serial & parallel as the sound plays. Cool feature, though it's only come up once or twice that I really wished I had it.

Thx... Still a lil worried because I'm waiting for it and I still can't try it really...

I guess I still can "power up" the ”Q sounds with external effects to make them fatter and bigger.

I was considering to buy an effect module, like the TC-electronics M300 (cheap, but hot, so it seems).

Anyhow, I can tell that the only main difference between the ”Q Omega and the rest is the 75 voice expansion, which should allow to use more effects on sounds while maintaining a correct polyphony !
That sound great on paper.
I hope I won't be disappointed :-)

Do any of you use the ”Q for tekno style music ?

Well, by tekno style, I realize I'm not too precise... Hem... Sorry...
I mean to use fat drums and weird basses just as in Astral Projection or Infected Mushroom's compos, for example. See what I mean ? Hu ?

As I said, I've tried a full Q Rack (not the ”Q), and even some presets were fully enjoyable for me!
I hope to find again these presets, and more :-)

I can't wait to play with my new toy (and to think about buying some new hardware to make it sound better, I guess) ! hu hu hu !

I guess Milan is right: even according to Joerge, the Matrix offered on the ”Q pannel is great and easy to use compared with the Access Rack XL. for programming, it looks a good compromise between little space (2 u rack) and large show of information. And it still offers (so it seems) some real time filter controlling !
Geeez !! This lil beast looks great, in fact !!

I've seen 'em both, and they do sound different. I have the uQ and I get plenty of warmth and richness, it's mostly in the filter envelope. Also, the big Q does that wave morphing thing that I find so desirable, but they're close enough that you won't be sorry! That little box sounds fantastic all the time!

I have a few projects and one is Hard Trance, and we throw in a lot of psychedelic, you won't be sorry, esp when you start playing with the FM on the oscillators!

Does the uQ not do the morphing thing? tsk tsk tsk. That is a SICK feature. Oh well, for what you pay it desrves NO complaints.

Can you imagine what you get these days for the price of a Prophet 5 new back in the day? Folks we go it easy.

Hem...
Truth is, we have become more and more "requiring" from our material.
Hu, can you remember the first synths in the world, without effects, without polyphony, monotimbral ??? Yuke !
