nothing available today aside from a few expensive garage projects offer a true analog true modular system, PIA comes to mind as one of the few. Yet the new modelers like the nova, virus, and the waldorf, are even better in my opinion. Add multi-timbrality, midi, other forms of sysnthesis, built in effects, and a cheaper price and you have a successful formula.

But old analogs are still great

There is more too. But obscure, hard to find let alone test if you wanna get it. There great sounding too. But what about the bang for the buck? Goos for studios too but not for shows.

Oh, obviously. I wouldn't think of using a real modular with patchcords and shit live. I already have enough to keep straight in my head.

The Aurturia? It's already around, and it sounds the dog's nadgers! At least the beta does. Hell, even Dr. Bob himself was impressed. However, why not take patch cords live? Something like a nice 2 panel of MOTM in an SKB pop-up rack, an Xbase, modded 606, ASR10 rack, Evolver, 1604, and a pair of mmt8's, and that would give probably one the best sounding live rigs on the planet with just about nothing irreplaceable, and better portability than my current live rig for the price of....a decent used car.

In all seriousness the price of MOTM's stuff is not that outrageous, especially if you take a little time to learn how to use a soldering iron, and build the modules yourself from kits over an extended period. If you look at the cost of each module, you could build a modular that would have more function and sound FAR better than an ms20 for less than the cost of one from most dealers. Ever heard MOTOM's stuff? It sounds AMAZING, as in rediclulously good. Granted, some of that stuff is VERY expensive per piece, and when you add up what you could spend on it, the sky is the limit, but then so is the types of sounds you could make.

It's not for everybody, and in fact for most serious songwriters, it's exactly the opposite of what you need, but if you're a knob tweeker and like to have originals sounds, there is nothing better than a real modular. Not even a Kyma system, MAX or Super Collider.

Nope, Nord Modular KB.. First generation KBs are being blown out for $995 at Nova Musik right now.

If anyone actually bothered to read the Clavia forum they'd know

wow that's very interesting...so i guess it is
harder to program?

well, the modular is great because there is
no limit on what sounds u can make when
you have 4 osclillators and 4 filters..also
mistakes could lead you to a new sound and
the fun...I was BLOWN away by the power of
the Moog VST Modular and I cant imagine well
i can how a analog synth going thru a moudlar
system will sound as compared to the moog
vst. Actually Im buying(savin up now) for a
modular system im getting
www.synthesizers.com and the good thing
about this company is that you can integrate
MOTM mods into this setup. The 3000.00ish
systems like MOTM and Wiardmodular are
great but I cant affford to sepnd that much.
....anyways Id love to see more young
producers to open their minds to analog
modular synthesis I dont want to hear music
10 years down the line that is completely
digital bu the analog vs digital question is
another topic. oh check out
www.modcan.com another analog modular
company...they have .mp3s to check out
