Subject: another "what soundcard for me"
Original Message Date: 10-Nov-03 @ 07:59 PM - another
so i'm going through the old threads on "what soundcard for me"-type questions. i'm wondering if that information (dated at least 1/2 year ago) is still good info? I mean, because pc hardware seems to advance so quickly.
any advice? I want it primarily for recording. Anything else is a bonus.

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

if you write the parts, and then say, "ok, thats it"...then you track it and move on, thats one method
but if you are like some, and you want to write out an entire song, in midi, and THEN track it all and mix it...going back through and tracking individual parts could take quite some time, but its ONLY a time thing, nothing else
so...save some cash for now, get the audiophile, or check out the hoontech. the brits love those things!

Seriously Dave, I did think about getting one a while ago, but I just didn't see an advantage for me with my setup, and how I record. I don't have a lot of outboard effects, and my soundcard has 2 stereo pair in. I don't think a patchbay is of much use for me.

patchbays dont really introduce noise tho

As far as soundcards, those already mentioned are excellent, plus you might check out the Echo cards (the Gina and Darla come in around your price range) as well as the RME Digi96 cards. If you need mic inputs, the Ardvark 24/96 (very similar to DefZ's line 6) are most handy.
