Ok nothing to do with anything but hopefully you can help. At work the manager has asked me to find out how we can get the company website link higher up on the search engine resutls page. I have absolutely no idea how to do this as I no less about the internet than I do about anything else (left to your imaginations), can anyone point me in the right direction pleeease?

Cheers

Lloyd

I know but the boss is moaning saying that he wants to be at the top and that he wants to be in the sponsored links section. Seems like it's down to the popoularity of the site which there's not much I can really do about. I think it's high enough already anyway

well you have to pay to be in the sponsored links

dude, garages are different, the web is shit for that sort of thing, cos it's riddled with crap sites for spares etc which are in fact rip-off 0906 number scams

you do the search, the part is available.. then.... DIAL TO ORDER

wait wait wait ...never get thru, ring off in disgust... they make shitloads of money from people who try and call

i dont think car guys use the www do they?... flyering would be better use of ad' budget i'd say

Don't be tempted to put in hidden text! Someone on a business forum I use has had his ranking removed for this!

As others have suggested: careful keywords and meta tags, and sensible linking.

We got our business Freelancealot to the 13th slot on Google for 'Virtual Assistant', but when you add a service like +transcription or +proofreading we come out top. Think about what your customers will type in (including spelling mistakes - our first client's site, a jewelry business, was ranked first page for glod rings).

You get better with experience, so as it is yer dad's income, probably best to heed the pay to save advice, or accept your current ranking.

Does he specialise in any type of car? Try the car owners club sites and link from there maybe.

It was a kind of mantra. Me and the missus both felt the whole employee and comuting thing was a huge drag and strain. The idea is to secure enough clients to enable us to travel with the business on laptops. It shouldn't matter where we are geographically. I need to find that hidden bay, with a rock worn smooth by the sea into a ledge, and a palm tree casting a shade over the screen, and attentive slender waitresses in grass skirts bringing cool drinks...(maybe that last bit is from another dream). Anyway, Freelancealot. And with ongoing attention to detail...

Cyber Guinevere - admin (pa/secretarial) services

Web-Alchemist Merlin - web design

Cyber Pendragon - Editorial

Midi Minstrel - Audio services

Lady of the Link & Morgan La FAQ - obvious really.

The old site was www.freelancealot.co.uk/old_site/ The missus went berserk with DHTML! She's as much into webdesign as I am into music.

We had to go a bit more 'business-like' with the current site.

Names can be fun and functional.

Musineer is a term I devised because I felt uncomfortable calling myself a musician in the company of people who spent most of their day practising or performing - and equally ill at ease callingyself a sound engineer in the company of folk who did nowt but. So musi neer.
