Ive got a 5x86 133mhz , and Im due for an upgrade, I can get either a Pentium 166MMX or a Pentium Pro 200, the P166MMX is a lot cheaper, but I was wondering if the Pentium Pro 200 would be *that* much more worth, would it deliver me more tracks, real-time processing , ect.. also , Im interested in getting Seers Systems reality now that I will have a fast enough computer to handle it, could the Ppro200 get a considerable amount of more voices over a P166 MMX ? thanks ...

Yeah, I'm about ready for an upgrade, and I'd like to know what I should get... I don't want any problems, and I don't care about names... All I care about (My computer is now OFFICIALLY ONLY used for HD recording) is that... what will work best for HD recording?

this isnt a really cheap price at all for a system, lets work it out....A P200 chicp is now 128 inc vat, a 64 bit graphics card
is around 40 quid inc vat (128bit cards are only about 60 quid),64mb mem is 160 for 2x32`s a 3.5gig hard drive is 131 inc vat a 14" inch monitor 116 inc vat (trust monitor)
and 12x cd rom 45 quid inc vat ,and a min tower with mouse, keyboard etc 60 quid inc vat, so that works out
at �680 quid, and this is of course minus a sound card, i just picked these prices from choice periphrals in Worksop, notts, thats 320 quid less than your price above, obviously you have to build it yerself, but thats a piece of piss anyway, Im not slagging you at all, just trying to gove an alternative, afterall this is a help type place innit?

All you peeps thinking of using Cubase VST for the PC, this
is what Steinberg say about MMX:

"Cubase VST does not require MMX but the program will
benifit from an MMX with an increase of approx 10-15% in
performance."

and on number of tracks:

"Intel pentium 100 6-8 tracks
Intel pentium 166 12-16 tracks
Intel Pentium 200 22-26 tracks."

They recommend Intel coz that what the used to develop
the prog but who knows, the AMD K6 might still wipe the
floor with the Pentium. S'pose they want to cover their
backs if other processors stumble in certain areas, only
time will tell.

I have a copy of VST for the pc and am using a cyrix
p133/166 32 MB but will upgrade to AMD K6/200 MMX with 64
MB RAM soon in order to run more plugin fx similtaneously.
The fx use "native" audio processor power, that is the
CPU processes the fx rather than using a dedicated DSP
chip. The more processor power the better.
