I'm looking to add a h/w compressor to my studio. I have some good s/w ones, but I miss the ability to compress things realtime while I'm composing and arranging. I have a nice unit (Focusrite Tonefactory) that has some simple adjustments for recording acoustic things (voice included), but I'd like to add something that has all the features. I'm looking for a unit that has the following features...

1. Full control of Attack, Release, Threshold, Ratio

2. LOW LOW LOW noise

3. Dual Mono (for compressing a bassline and a kick drum simultaneously

4. $500 or less (US)

The units that have been recommended to me are the Presonus ACP-22 (I had a bluemax that was quite good and I am leaning towards them for product loyalty), a dbx160, the HHB Fat Man, a Summit box and a Joe Meek. Because I have a good mic-pre in the Tonefactory, this unit will only be used for instruments, and again, a LOW noise floor is very important. Thanks.

Okay - $599 is too much money, AND...

Doesn't support DXI and Sonar. So I'm SOL on that one.

Well, the waves bundles ain't cheap either... And yeah, the waves stuff uses that fugged up PACE copy protection. 'Orrible stuff that can cause problems with yer configuration.

You asked about SF... Annoying copy protection, needs an activation code you can get via the phone or the web.... Not toooo horrible, but a pain in the ass.

i have been seriously considering selling my waves gold bundle... would let it go for a good price if you are interested...

i spoke to waves and they will transfer license for a fee (i think it was $100 or something?)

theres nothing wrong with the plugs, i only ever use the renisance stuff but lately i sequence on the rs7k not sonar so it doesnt matter.

also i am getting an itch for some outboard mastering gear (i also use the waves stuff for mastering)

the ren comp is very nice :-)

email me if you are interested formant@bellsouth.net

just buy the waves plugs to clear your conscience and then use the cracks to avoid the copy protection

and for the record, yet again, the UAD-1 can be used with Sonar with the FXPansion wrapper (possibly others).
