Subject: weird stutters, lags, and skipping
Original Message Date: 06-Sep-05 @ 06:52 PM - weird stutters, lags, and skipping
Gotta a funny problem here. I've been having trouble with audio playback here on my computer. Its happening in every program so i reckon its a general system problem rather than something specific to each program. I'm using Avid DV, Combustion, Wavelab and Itunes and in everything I keep getting random audio lags and stuttering, sometimes it sounds like a CD skipping or just stutters. A lot of the time the PC pauses as if its just taking a second to collect its thoughts... well I've no idea what might be causing this or how I might go about fixing it. I don't really wanna consider a system wipe just yet but.... it is that annoying... Any ideas? What usually cause these kinda problems?
Thanks
Sean

Yeah i got some program, forgotten now what it was called, and it seems to have deleted it. Then did the AVAST AV scan and it says all is fine. Aurora hasn't re appeared yet. Still getting a few stutters tho. Fuck it tho. I'l live with it. Lifes too short.
Yeah those companies. My kid brother uses this sometimes for the net and he installed some program called Kazaa... no end to the amount of shit i had to uninstal with that, told him to use soulseek if he had to use anything. I think Aurora came form the torrent websites that i was exploring when i first got broadband, before i realised torrent downloading is shite.
But yeah revenge would be nice. I'l buy the nails, if one of you guys can get yer hands on some semtex...
(think the CIA will be monitoring this thread now that i said that?)
Anyway,
Thanks K. Much appreciated. As Always.

Just password the pc and dont let anyone use it is the answer. The very act of installing s/w on somone elses pc without their permission should be enuff to ban that person from using it.
One guy I know, had his machine screwed by his kid's mate who came round and surfed porn sites. He had to rebuild it and lost work, work that was supporting his life.
btw, torrents are fine. Like anything else, if you are sensible and use appropriate protective s/w you should be ok.
kazza btw has spyware in it afaik, you have to use an old copy of Kazza LITE and never press the upgrade option when it boots.
yeah, it's a sad state in this industry when hijackers are allowed to roam the www freely corrupting and ruining peoples PC's but, as there's no political will to do anything about it we have to be sensible with WHO uses our PC's - you gotta be a bit cruel to survive.

run that remover
Notes:
* The date and time displayed will be adjusted to your time zone, if your computer is not set to the Pacific time zone.
* The removal tool may terminate Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. It is recommended that users save their work and log out of these programs before running the removal tool.
* The removal tool will not delete some harmless Temporary Internet files, which Adware.Istbar created, in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.
These can be manually deleted using the following steps:
1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools > Internet Options.
3. In the Temporary Internet Files section, then click the Delete Files button.
4. Check Delete all offline content, and then click OK.
* The Removal tool will not reset any changes made to settings in Internet Explorer. To restore default settings in Internet Explorer it is necessary to perform the following actions:
a. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
b. Select Internet Options
c. Select the Programs tab
d. Click Reset Web Settings
e. Click OK
f. Exit Control Panel
-------------
i'd advise o/d to d/load firefox and use that as your browser, also use SPYWAREBLASTER in conjunction with firefox and of course use avast
once you get rid of that with the tool, get a copy of the free CWSHREDDER and run it
then also use SPYbot S&D and also ADAWARE, run them regularly and ALWAYS keep them up to date using the included updaters (update before running scans)
you'll find all the free protections tools links you need at
wilders.org

thanking you most kindly, sir.
just one more question, is it usual for a system to be hogging approx 278mb of ram?
seems quite shocking to me
Message 29/29 14-Sep-05 @ 01:41 PM - RE: weird stutters, lags, and skipping
What is loaded in RAM?
Items in RAM can be divided into:
* The Non-Paged area. Parts of the System which are so important that they may never be paged out - the area of RAM used for these is called in XP the Non-Paged area. Because this mainly contains core code of the system, which is not likely to contain serious faults, a Blue Screen referring to Page Fault in Non-Paged area probably indicates a serious hardware problem with the RAM modules, or possibly damaged code resulting from a defective Hard disk. It is, though, possible that external utility software (e.g. Norton) may put modules there too, so if such faults arise when you have recently installed or updated something of this sort, try uninstalling it.
* The Page Pool which can be used to hold:
o Program code,
o Data pages that have had actual data written to them, and
o A basic amount of space for the file cache (known in Windows 9x systems as Vcache) of files that have recently been read from or written to hard disk.
Any remaining RAM will be used to make the file cache larger.
Why is there so little Free RAM?
Windows will always try to find some use for all of RAM even a trivial one. If nothing else it will retain code of programs in RAM after they exit, in case they are needed again. Anything left over will be used to cache further files just in case they are needed. But these uses will be dropped instantly should some other use come along. Thus there should rarely be any significant amount of RAM free. That term is a misnomer it ought to be RAM for which Windows can currently find no possible use. The adage is: Free RAM is wasted RAM. Programs that purport to manage or free up RAM are pandering to a delusion that only such Free RAM is available for fresh uses. That is not true, and these programs often result in reduced performance and may result in run-away growth of the page file.
