go to SETTINGS
open the AUDIO menu
click ADVANCED
At the top of the dialog box, there is the file path for where Cakewalk will dump its audio...in a box headed: DATA DIRECTORY
Check the filepath is ok...or type in a new one...
so...cakewalk defaults to place the wavedata directory inside it's own programme files dir....if you have audio in there already, then check the filepath
check the filepath is using \ BACKSLASHES and not / forward slashes.....if you have no data in the Cakewalk dir, then in the dialog box I described above (in ..settings...audio...advanced....data directory) type in a new filepath and directory name, and you will find that Cakewalk will have created a directory in windows via this dialog box.....
try that...

c:\wavedata
this will create a dir on C called wavedata....

Struggled with this, and found a fix, that I'd like to share (if
nothing else for people with this problem that may refer to DejaNews)
The problem I had was related to Microsoft ADPCM. Apparently Cakewalk
needs this to be enabled to be able to import wav files, I had it
disabled, for God knows what reason.. this took me a while to find,
needless to say. (The error message is less than informative.)

i dont know i was able to solve the problem by loading
the specific wav into another program , then saved
it into a diff file name... then i was able to
import it to cake walk after that... hmmmmm weird,
it must have been a language thang (diff kind of wav
format probably)...
thanks again for your support!!!!
