A few hours from now, Emagic is discontinuing all PC production. Almost everyone seem to be concerned about this, searching in panic for another sequencer with regular updates.

Is this all due to fear of not being able to use future standards in s/w synths or sound processing etc? If not, what are the biggest reason for jumping ship? Because it would not make sense to jump from the best and most reliable ship on the planet (no Titanic comparisons please

I am considering buying Logic Platinum soon, since the prices should be great due to this Apple buyout. It has everything I need to be creative, Something that Cubase 5 never managed to do.

Personally, I will buy a Mac before leaving my Logic Audio for another hussy. I don't understand the panic myself. Will switching to another sequencer, just because it will have regular updates, make your production life any better??? It will take a while to get used to the new software and it will cost money! I can't see any need to do something so drastic until the common PC technology changes so much that it does become absolutley necessary.

Yes we were shat on from a great hight. But I have a powerful shower and Logic is a damned fine sequencer. Personally, I find it an essential item if you are a heavy MIDI user.

Regards.

Steve.

i don't really see the point of buying it if you got it already. for the customer support? (pah!) it'll do what it does for ever, 5.2 is fantastic, but could you see yourself paying for it in 5 years time? will anyone be selling it? would you buy it second hand?

if you found an old abandoned ford escort you wanted to do up, would you pay ford for the thing? look at me, i'm ranting and it's only 8:45.

perhaps best is to wait with the pc version and crossgrade later when top-end mac's up to an athlon's grunt have come down in price... mebbe that's a good strategy - the other way to look at it is that the mac you buy is a dedicated music machine so no need to get to know it for other s/w.

I'm gonna check out SONAR2 tho and SX on an XP partition soon tho on this new athlon... sonar is very well supported, rewire 2, comes with some quality plugs, etc etc.

I haven't really "got" it already, from a legal point of view. Isn't it true that if you release music professionally, the software company can check up on you, find out if you are using cracked software, and kick your arse? This would be my reason for officially paying Emagic, not the customer support. Plus, it's a great sequencer so I feel it would be worth it when PC prices have gone down enough.

I'm not releasing music professionally tho, so this is not really an issue...

My point was, does PC Logic need any more upgrading?? Who cares if Emagic stopped making it, I think it was close enough to perfection when they did! Maybe I will want to buy something else in 6-7 years when VSTi3 and new standards dominate the s/w world, but I'll deal with it when that day comes...

of course, it works fine for me... I'd like Rewire2, but it wont bother me if it never is there (which it looks like it wont ever be) - we got multiple VSTi outs now, the extra trigger stuff on channels, undo history, cool automation etc... it's all I need really.

well its true that logic does a lot now, but computers and software are evolving faster than ever. and logic for pc just stopped in its tracks... sure you can stay there and just be happy. but i think a lot of music these days requires being on the cutting edge. offline processing in SX means that you can chop up a bunch of beats and apply loads of different effects to all the little bits, reverse reverbs, flangers etc. really quickely and without having to bounce. that is one little example of progress, and something i already wouldnt want to do without. Of course in the end its just a tool, but it has changed the way i work and the results are amazing.
