I was wondering getting myself an "old" akai
S 2000 or so...just to play my AKAI sample cd-sets....
I've heard a lot of talk about no good bottom end....To sharp at the edges...
We're talking classical instruments here...I have these cd's with orch sounds...top quality...but due to the fact that gigasampler doesen't support that many good soundcards yet,(the soundblaster is not good enough for a start) I thougth I'd get an akai as a playback sampleplayer.....
Opinions?

ho, the s-2000 isn't old!! I own one myself , it is more new than the s-3000xl. About sound-quality: It's sounds great, the bottom-end IS great. To sharp at the edges?, well, then use an eq!.
It is a great device when using with computer software like mesa-pc.
Btw. the internal hardware is almost the same as in the s-3000xl.

Well, every time I read a rewiew of Akai samplers it's said to be a bit sharp and lacking a lot of bottom end, compared to Emu, and Ensoniq samplers....There was this magazine that did a head to head check also.....

anywayz, djmarty...What kind of music do you make??
Does the S 2000 exist as a sampleplayer only?
How's the S 1000 for such a purpose?

And finally.....what is the max expansion on the s 2000 and s 1000????

mickey mate the entire S range spec's from 700 to 2000 & 3000/3200xl is listed in ARTICLES section or AKAI section under 'related articles' list...
