I am sure you can do this but what do I need to do. I am using sound forge.I go in to configure the send to and I cant find the mpc 2000.I only see the s1000 and s2000.HElp

Hi,

Well, you can't. At least not via SCSI. The MPC2000 only responds to midi sample dumps. This takes a very long time. You'd be better off to get a zip drive and write wavs to the zip and then load them up in the MPC.

Be careful though, make sure that any MPC-formatted zip cartridges are not in the zip when connected to a windows pc. This will overwrite some things on the disk making it unreadable by the MPC.

The other method you can use which is slower than SCSI is to save wavs onto a floppy and then load them into the MPC. As long as the wavs are under 1.38 MB or so (normal formatted floppy capacity), you'll be fine.

when saving it too zip or floopy on the computer do have any recomendations. Do I just save them to the zip when its in the computer and then load the zip into the mpc the mpc should load them, right? I have tried this before and it did not load the sample for some reason. I am wondering about the sds midi dump though? How well does that work?Thanks much.

Your best bet (easiest) is to actually have 2 zip drives. An internal one on the PC and an external on the MPC. I don't think that the MPC responds too kindly to the PC being connected at the same time. It is possible but you may end up having problems.

Furthermore, as I mentioned, if you leave a MPC-formatted disk and you browse your drives using Windows Explorer (not Internet explorer), your zip will be corrupted and you will lose your files.

If you save your files to a PC-formatted zip drive it should work fine. For more info on this, check out the following link which has some great tips on the MPC. www.midicase.com

I would forget about Midi SDS. It is very, very, very, very, very s-s-s-s-s-s-l-l-l-o-o-o-o-w-w-w-w.

Akai uses an MPC,S5000,S3000,S2000,and a
MAC all networked on the same SCSI
drive.Maybe you need a MAC!!!!!The 2 Zip
deal works just save your sample as a
.wav file on the zip.SDS is ultra
slow!!!!!!!!

Why don't you give some *constructive* advice H?

You'll have the same issue using a Mac. The MPC wants to be the main controller on the SCSI bus. If you try to load something off of a SCSI drive on the same bus as a Mac while the Mac is also trying to do something on the same SCSI bus you'll get a lockup. Possibly on both machines.

I did not say that it was impossible. It will work on either platform. For many people though, it is much simpler to keep the MPC and their computer of choice on separate SCSI busses so as to avoid this.

jere00001@hotmail.com: If you can work by sharing the same scsi bus that's great. I guess I should have maybe suggested that you try it first by sharing the same bus. If you have too much trouble with it, get a second drive as I suggested the first time around.

hey thanks quys!!I have two external zip
drives one 100mb and one 250mb.I have problems with the mpc finding the samples. This is probily because I used win explorer. So I take a sample save it as a wave on to the zip and put it to the mpc,right? I should not use explorer and the disk should be pc formated,right? And the sds is slow!ok I think I have it. I am going home sick to try it. Thanks again.

Dude the Akai tech told me how they had
it set up.I don't know shit about a PC
and my G4 came standard w/ a zip.The

You're taking it a little too personal here. I never said that your advice was spotty. I just disagreed with the tone of it making it seem that the Mac was the only answer. Both platforms can do the job was all I was referring to. The guy already owns a pc (since he uses Soundforge). In order to do what he wants, he does not also have to invest in a Mac. That's all.

what I meant was (as fv says also), simply answering questions with a 'get a mac' type answer AINT answering a question is it?

I'm holding my hands up by the way because I am terrible for adding crap messages to threads myself, like k says 'calm it down' cos you don't HAVE to add your little bit to every thread out there.. get in the studio and write some fucking tunes if you have that mutch spare time.
