Perhaps a dumb Question:

With programs like Fruityloops,
SoundForge, and SoundFonts (with SBLive), and faster
computers these days.

Is there any point buying a sampler?

Computers are getting faster, yes. But unstable as hell , I avoid when making music.

hm.. sampler.. have its own slight (or not so slight) character it imparts to the sound. it's REAL & THERE. and it plays back samples without the load being on your computer. there's no replacing a good sampler. maybe there is, but not for me and my obsessive drum programs. it's foggy out & i need to make more analog snare samples today. even though i sample INTO a computer with 24/96 convertors

frankly it depends what music you make, for drums yes, for certain synth parts yes, but for more complexed stuff like 'synthesiser playing' type stuff you might want hardware -

I don't wanna work I just want to bang on my synth all day.

-;) If you call letting the sequencer loop around befor you insert the next note than yes I am a very accomplished synthesizer player.I do play some things straight thru but usually fuck around a bit by inserting the odd note or two here and there.

1 piano lesson,1 drum lesson and proud
