Have internal IBM modem soundcard problem is when I use modem I have to disable all sound functionality and when I use sound I have to disable the modem. This is doing my head in and I cannot find any info on this bugger anywhere else - including IBM. Does anyone else have a solution? Grateful for any replies. Thanks.

well, i have to say i hate internal modems..... best to do would be scrap it and get an external... however.... what is the IRQ situation of this item?.... are the two functions listed as two seperate devices or what?... and what s/w are you trying to use it with in what set-up?

Dear kilo,

thank you for the message you left in the dance tech chat forum re
above.

I do agree that the best way to deal with the problem is to get rid of
it, but I have a rebuilt machine that started life as a Packard Bell
thing. The modem came with it & worked fine with sound at the same time.
However, its a quirky thing & PB do not know how to configure it
properly with the bundled software etc. It crashed a few times, and I
figured out (or so I thought!) all its quirks. However, since rebuilding
my machine approx. some 2 yr. later using some of the old parts such as
the hard drive, RAM (8mb) & this IBM Mwave thing, & also adding some new
bits - 8mb more of RAM, (total = 16mb), new motherboard & faster
processor (up from 75 to 150), & adding xtra hard drive, floppy & cd
Rom drives, running under same software re the card & same operating
system (WIN95 - 4.00.950) it will only work one or other function! IRQ's
etc. (see below) are fine, so is SB settings (SB PRO). NB: After 1st
rebuilding, it wouldn't work at all - I had to rewrite the parts of
sys.ini relevant to card&machine (i.e. relationship wise). Now, I can
get modem, or waves - but no midi. & what's more, not both at same time
like before.

The Comm. port & IRQ settings have obviously changed to support my new
motherboards settings.

Again, thank you for your note. If you are able to help, or have any
ideas, please do.

Apologies fo this long note, I thought it might help you or of course
anyone else with any ideas, suggestions, or solutions to etc.

Once again, many thanks.

Regards

Kit

ps - in case any of you are wondering why I ain't scrapped it, it's
'cos, a) I am a slow learning, relatively new, not xactly loaded person
to this world (computers etc that is!),
& b) am in process of building a new machine form scratch, with much
better stuff & will have xternal modem/new soundcard in it, but until I
do decide on what the best for me, I won't let this bugger beat me - not
without a fight!

regards everyone.
Kit Suchak
