just got a db50xg and wanted to put it on my awe64gold - doesnt want to fit - are we talking non-compatable here? what to do...

IMO AWE64 does not have waveblaster connector, necessary to fit db50xg, so you have to either get sw60xg ( isa solution ) instead, or make special adapter mpu401<->db50

It will fit, you just need to push it a bit harder.. find a slot that looks more or less like what you want then use unecessary force. If it still wont fit calmly take the Awe64 out of your pc and proceed to smash it into a thousand tiny pieces. There, mutch better now. Now go and find some dirt cheap soundcard with a daughterboard connector and use that instead.

Will the EWS64 XL easily take the db50 xg as add on?

Yes, the EWS64XL will take it if you have the front panel. It goes in the front panel. I used to have it but I was fortunate enough to burn the EWS without getting angry. I've got an A3000 now. Yeahhhh.
