yes, transwaves (as found in Fizmo and first introduced in the VFX) are like layered waves, built in segements... an excerpt from the Fizmo's User Guide says: "...special waves comprised of multiple sound recordings arranged one after another in "farmes." Transwaves can provide an exciting degree of animation, or liveness, to sounds. The recordings in a Transwave may be related to one another--witheach frame capturing a stage in the evolution of a single sound--or they may be related, resulting in a random-sounding wave that can be useful in providing a touch of the unexpected to a sound. You can use modulation to control which frames will be heard when you play a note, resualting in all manner of dynamic timbral changes."

Ever work with a Korg Wavestation? Transwaves are analogous to wave sequencing on the Korg WS. You don't get the same level of control, i.e., inserting waves into a sequence in step time (ugh) but you do get the full complement of modulation capabilites like modulating start & end points.

Yeah, I hear it's pretty cool (the expansion board that is.) 've been using the Mac freeware editor w/my X. There's a copy available at my site. I've been reminding Garth at RCS that he promised a Mac verstion of X-Tools - hopefully it will still happen.
