Made time to stop at GC today and check out the new E-mu samplers. I booted the ESI2K and noticed the screen displayed "ESI-4000 OS v3.02" ha ha ha

They had a ESI-4000 with the Effects/extra Outputs board for $899 and the ESI-2000 w/o the Effects/Output board for $799. Hhmmm, which sounds like the better deal? ;-)

It may be my imagination but the ESIs don't seem to sound as rich as the E5KU did - maybe because the ESI-2000 didn't have the effects board installed (no demo disks to try the ESI4K)

Anyway, i'm not ready to switch from my ASR-X Pro yet...

regards,
jondl

THE ESI 2000 IS NOT EXPANDABLE TO THE SAME AMOUNT OF OUTPUTS AS THE ESI 4000
TAKE A LOOK AT EMU-SYSTEMS HOME PAGE I HAVE NOT HEARD THE OTHER SAMPLERS BUT MY 4000 PRODUCES SOME VERY WARM SOUNDS YOU JUST GOTTA GET YOUR HEAD AROUND IT

The 4k won`t sound as lush as the 5k cos of the ultra series` higher quality DACs but that don`t necessarily mean the esi series sound cold in comparison.
