Hi, I've recently decided to get one of the above samplers, and wanted to konw their pro's / con's, which is better, etc..Which is better at audio manipulation, better onboard "FX" (maybe functions was a better word...), which is "easier " to use, etc...I also wanted to know if they can load any type of audio file, or are they limited to specific types...oh, and ONE more question...do the samplers retain banks/presets or are they wiped out after the unit is turned off? ..oh, i also read that the emu has 32 filters, wheras s2000 only has 1..is this something that affectsthe sound greatly?

I don't know either of the samplers but I have an Emu so I'll say something to get the ball rolling. The 32 filters as opposed to 1 will make quite a difference since you use filters to manipulate the sounds. Both Emu and Akai have their own strengths. Filters are on the side of Emu from all I've heard as well as how much you get for your buck. I've also heard that Emus are more musician intuitive to use. That's one of the reasons I went for the Emu also. But stay tuned. I'm sure that more people can add opinions based on experience with one or both of the samplers you're looking at. Wish I could be of more help.

well, thanks for gettin the thread rolling (hopefully)...I should've mentioned that the trade involved an esi32 with 16 megs ov ram, or a s2000 maxed out at 32 megs, and a scsi cd-rom drive..i'm still leanin towards the esi-32 tho, since i'm more or less going to be makin my own stuff and not usin sample cd's...plus i read that 16 megs gives about a minute or so of time, which would suffice fornow...anyone know what kinda memory an esi32 takes?...oh, and comments or opinions on which you tink is better and why are still more than welcome

we kinda ran thru this on the main board. Mt personal opinion is that if you`re using it 4 beats and beats only, then I`d take the akai cos the beats have more punch and crispness, but if you`ve got samplist tendencies and wanna use it 4 a whole lot more then go with the emu - u get a lot more bang 4 buck and a smoother, more cultured sound with a massive bottom end (like my ex). 16 meg is shitloads tho mate - it dont mean 1 minute of music total, just 16 meg of samples, consider that a drum hit takes up maybe 1/2 sec max memory and a bassloop maybe 2 or 3 secs and you`ll see that u can go a long way with just that. Fuckme, if u know what you`re doing, even 1/2 meg can b enuff 2 make a whole track. The esi dont have 32 filters tho - thats the advertising bullshit tricking u, its 32 note polyphony, and 1 filter per voice. Make sure its got version 3 or higher os tho cos thats the upgrade that adds all the different filter types else you`ll only have lopass 2 play with.

Thanks for the input...I asked, and it has the latest OS which adds the other filters, but the guy isn't sure what they are..(he's pretty much a novice too, that's why he's givin it up..hehe)...what exactly are the new filters (are they like bandpass, hipass, etc..?)...

yup, as far as I know. I think they also include emu specialities like the 6-poles and possibly even a z-plane or 2   I think ver 3os adds like 15 extra filter types or summing - very usefull indeed.

Hey R-Tek : hehe, i guess i am sorta a synth freak...i've seen moreppl on the gas station tend to discuss kitlists, or help out on ppl's problems and stuff...product a vs product b posts are usually left behind (occasionally someppl will post and it might get popular, like the past jp8000 vs an1x posts..)...but luckily a place like this exists and someone helped me out   I do have another question, ist he turbo upgrade worth getting, like hwat doesit add?...and howmuch would it cost..(yikes, theres sometypoes in ths post...it's 5 Am and very cold in here..hehe)

the turbo adds another 6 outputs 2 add 2 the 4 its already got which is very usefull indeed, (I think) digital ins/outs and the efx card which judging by the efx on my ultra won`t b great by any means but will still come in handy anyway.

I knew you were good at what you do!!! German porno movies are the best of the best. You don't just buy a sampler and go making music for german porno. Now I'm really in awe.
