Anyone SCSI up an EPS (original or 16+)? Pongoid? Ease of install? How's the reliability? Can you boot from it? I'm considering it -- I have an old syquest and a bunch of cartridges and am tired of all these f*ing floppies.

My partner uses a syquest, and seems to have little trouble, except when we play an outdoor gig, and the drive doesn't want to boot up cuz it's too cold. Zips do not work with it. Best is to use a dedicated 250-500 meg hard drive. Very fast access, loads while you play. The best for live stuff. If you've got a syquest, get on it. Way better than corrupted floppies, like me.

d-
You might want to check out RCS if you have a tough time finding a SyQuest. Garth *might* have them in stock - I don't know for certain http://www.chickensys.com/

Yeah, that's who I was gonna get the interface from. Got some other software from them before, EAVES I think it was. Garth's a great resource.

Out of curiosity, how much is an EPS-m worth? The local GC is selling one for $700, and that seemed steep to me...

Ouch! The GC here had two of the 16+ racks for $499 each. And that was what was on the tag, so, well, you know... negotiable.

A locally owned shop, though, told me they can move all the used keyboard model ASR-10s they can get their hands on at damn near what they tag 'em for.

$700 for an EPSm? Ouch! That's way
out of line - $300 - $350 is more
realistic, IMO. $499 for a EPS16+ is
more in line with going prices.
ASR-10 go for anywhere from $1000
- $1300 near as I can tell. An ASR-X
can be had for around $550 - $600.

GC *will* negotiate but the sales
guys are only authorized to go to a
certain price point. Talk to the
department manager if you *really*
want to negotiate - and never, never
ever, trade in old gear! It's worth your
time to sell it yourself.

regards,
jondl
