can the floppy drive be replaced by a zip drive (like on some esi4000s) on the esi32 ? If yes, will it be IDE or SCSI ?

thanks for any advice...

It's not either, if it can be done. I just
bought an IDE internal and it won't
work, and the only available
connector is not SCSI.

Can anyone offer us some advice
here?

You can add a SCSI internal zip. You need to have a SCSI 3-way cable, which you can order from emu. Check out the emu archive (link above). It gives you the part # if you look under either the ESI-32 or ESI-4000 information.

EMU told me that the cable differs wether your ESI is an old or more recent ones. The old ones (like mine) have a separate SCSI option board, which has two connectors (one for the external socket and another one which I think is for internal drives) and the others have SCSI on the main board, and only one connector. For this type apparently you need the 3 connectors cable. The older type needs a standard (cheaper) cable, that converts from 40 pin (on the ESI) to the connector on the zip, which is smaller...
EMU sells this cable, for about $7, as well as the power cable (but maybe you can use the one from the floppy...). But I hope computer stores sell this as well, as I don't plan to wait 2 more weeks just for a cable...

I just received my scsi internal zip and haven't tried anything yet... I don't even know if it needs to be terminated (I guess yes).

Unfortunately the emu archive isn't really explicit on that topic, especially with the different ESI 32 versions...

to be continued.........

OK

the scsi zip works fine with a regular 50 pin cable.

The ESI sees it, there's just a special non-formating to do. That's explained on the emu arc site...

My PC even sees the drive...

Oh and I got the zip terminated and everything works fine...

Cool...sorry I wasn't of more help. Didn't realize that the SCSI setups for the ESI-32 and the ESI-4000 were different.

Does anyone have the part number on the
SCSI 3-way cable and the adapter for
power?

I want to install a SCSI Zip or ExFlyer
in my ESi-32 and I need those part
numbers to get my local dealer to order
it.

EMU's web site doesn't have them listed
in the order section, and the EMMu
Archive doesn't mention the kit.

Any help or a better way to order would
be muchly apprec

The adaper for power is the same as the floppy drive... Emu will try to sell you one though.
The 3 connectors harness p/n is AC419 (the info was in the ESI4000 part of emuarc.com...

BUT... make sure you read the older messages on this thread. I made a post where I explain everything with the experience I've had with my gear. You need to know if you really need a 3 connectors cable (for ESIs with built-in SCSI)...
I didn't and only use a standard 2 connectors harness.

I may have read that thread - My ESi
has SCSI, but I don't know if it was
built in.

I looked inside and the power
connector was odd looking and there
didn't appear to be a regular SCSI
connector inside for the ZIP.

Thanks for the part #. I'll re-read the
stuff at EMUArc.

Duh. Ok, so I've got the 2 SCSI
model. That's cool! Now for the
power issue.

Did you manage to get the power
connector from a PC shop or did you
have to order from EMU?

Damn proprietary bs :p

You can use the power cable from the floppy, it'll works just as well.

I've looked at the power cable and they
are totally not the same. I rigged
something up, but the EzFlyer may need
more power than the ESi will give it

I'm sending some email to Emu, I gotta
get ot the bottom of this.

I may have to hunt for a 100Mb internal
Zip on eBay at this ra
