Hi,

sorry for the length of this. However, it was posted by Sean Wilhelmsen on the Emu list:

Here's the latest.

We did show/demonstrate the RFX-32 Card at the AES show this September.
The Card is complete as well as all the new RFX options (24-bit 8 analog
outputs, 24-bit ADAT 16/8 and 24-bit 4 analog inputs). EOS 4.5 Ultra is
in beta now and our goal is to have this completed with in the next
month.

EOS 4.5 Ultra and RFX-32 will feature.

I know some you know this already, but this will bring everybody up to
date.

4 sends with percentage amount per voice. You can direct each send to
the main stereo dry buss or any of the 14 stereo FX busses. The FX
busses can be routed back to the main dry buss and/or be routed to an
additional sub out. Send amounts are a Modulation destination with in
the Patch Cords.

There are 6 FX slots per buss. Each one has its own wet/dry mix. With
mute, solo and bypass features.

Max number of FX at once is 16, 8 standard and 8 extended.

FX routing, FX slot assignments, FX edits are all stored with an RFX
setup. You can have multiple setups in RAM at once. You can also store
RFX setups in Flash or to the disk as its own object.

FX can be editing separate from the RFX setup and also be stored to
Flash, or disk.

There are now multiple Multi setups. Multi setups are now disk objects
as well.

The RFX does replace your current FX processor (G05). It will play back
your current presets in an emulation mode to stay compatible with your
current programming if you like. With this said all of the current
algorithms will be available. This is required in order to stay
backwards compatible. Use if you like or don't. You will be able to use
16 G05 FX B's (flanges, chorus, delay etc..) at once though, might not
be so bad.

Additional plug ins and FX presets will be included as well. Known new
plug ins at first customer ship are; ( More may ship, but this are the
for sure ones). New Big reverb with multiple FX presets. Parametric and
shelving EQ. Tempo based delays, as well as multi pattern programmable
delays (tempo too). Stereo 10 band EQ. A very long Stereo delay (over 2
seconds). New small reverb, up to 16 at once. New plug ins will be add
consistently and will be distributed via the web or by floppy. We plan
to have new plug ins at our web site a week after we ship. Once you get
your RFX -32 card, go to our web site immediately and get the latest and
greatest plug ins. Standard E-MU Plug ins we all be free. Third party
plug ins or specialty plug ins may have a nominal fee.

Live Sample feature.
This enables you to use an external audio source as a sample. Thus
enabling you, for example to run your voice through the RFX system and
synth engine of your E4 Ultra. Add reverb, chorus etc. as well as
filtering, lfo to Amp vol., Filter/amp envelope etc. to your voice,
guitar or other synths. You get the Idea, your E4 Ultra with the RFX-32
is now a FX and Filter Box/Digital Mixer. The RFX-32 supports 6 analog
inputs (sampling inputs and new Input card), and 10 digital inputs
(AES/EBU and 8 RFX ADAT channels). Since Live sample lives with in the
preset you can store your Audio input routing and Fx schemes as presets,
allowing you create multiple external audio configurations.

FX Box Mode.
This feature enable you to just the RFX as an FX box by simplify routing
input directly to an FX buss. The same can be accomplished with Live
Sample, FX BOX is just easier and more straight forward for those times
when your brain needs simplicity.

These are the highlights. Thanks for your patience. I'll will be posting
a PDF of the EOS 4.5 manual addendum on our web site at the end of the
month. That will go into greater detail of all the new features in EOS
4.5 Ultra and the RFX-32 card.

fv - thanks. Holy shit, that looks even better than I thought   Batcrack - the UK price is supposedly arounf the 600 quid mark, emu have it on their website at either $800 or $900, I cant remember. Thats just the rrp tho, you should be able to pick it up cheaper. The bitrate thing is *bound* to come up as a plug in, if not already on the rfx.

How about an aural exciter. You can process the samples in sample edit now , but it would be nice as a real time plug-in to run the cymbals and hats through.

Ya, this card looks like it will be awesome. Another note too, some of the output options (like Adat, etc.) must be 24-bit now as a requirement.

A lot of what's required for these options though is built onto the RFX card. So, if you add the Adat option, it will be cheaper than the previous ADAT card. However, the current ADAT option card (ie non-24-bit) is not compatible I think.

Emu mentioned a while back that the fx implementation on the RFX is open for other manufacturers to write fx algorithms for it (ie Lexicon, TC Elect., etc). Obviously, only if the card takes off will any names jump in.

Sounds quite promising though. I can't wait to check it out at my dealer. Sean mentioned that they hope to have it ready within a month. I would expect that we won't see the cards in stores until mid-November the earliest then.

Hi all,

In case any of you have not looked on the E-mu website lately. If you navigate your browser to Products, then Samplers, there is a link to some info on the RFX card. As well, you can download a .pdf document which is the manual on using the RFX-32 card.

For anyone dying to get this card, it should be in stores very soon I would guess.
