Does Jeff McClintock's (?) FZDump work with a 10M?
A 20M, too?I've got a PC and I'd have to run the
DOS version. (My music-devoted computers are
still Ataris!) Can I use a SoundBlaster Midi kit
(my PC has an SB16 card) to receive sample data
from the FZ, or just send it?
Or do I need the cable? (To do both ways, that is)
ALSO-- has anyone tried AWAVE to convert
standard MIDI sample dump files to FZ-- and then
load them via FZDump? Any problems? Does the
sample conversion (e.g., 44.1KHz-to-36 KHz)create
crummy sound?
--Thanks, George (committed FZ user, still
haven't been committed)

I'm using the Win '95 version of FZ dump with a SoundBlaster AWE 32 Gold card's midi interface. It definitely works with a FZ-10, I don't own a 20 so can't vouch for that one. As long as your sound card works with your FZ, you can both send and receive data between it and the PC. BTW. you MUST have both the midi in and outs connected for the 2 units to communicate or it won't work. Data transfer is EXTREMELY slow. Supposedly the special cable speeds things up considerably, but I haven't actually built it myself. I have also converted .wav files to FZ files with AWAVE and it seemed to work just fine, but I must admit I checked it out just briefly to see if it actually worked or not and wasn't too critical about the sound quality at the time.

I built the cable and used the pc parralell port and this works very fast and using awave you get no loss of
sound.I am using win95 and I go to dos to use the
fzdump.I use wav files converted from hammer head etc.
Then convert to fz fromat using awave and the dump them over.I bought a AB switch to connect and disconnect ther cable attached to the parrallel port. When I built the cable I used 220 ohm resisters
and it allowed me to make the cable about 20 feet long
to go accross my studio,It works great. Also I edit in cool
edit (free)save it,covert to fz in awave, then send it over to the FZ.

Hi All,

AWave can be found at:
http://hem.passagen.se/fmj/fmjsoft.html

It is shareware and works runs under 95, and 3.1 (with some additional file updates).

One other thing- there has been a lot said about FZ-Dump and the FZ-Dump cable. I have used the program and cable to move several hundred megs worth of samples with very few problems. If you are going to be moving more than 3 or 4 megs per hour it is well worth your time to build the cable. Uploads/downloads with the cable take about 60-90 seconds per meg (vs. about 12-13 minutes via the MIDI cable).

Take care, Mike

Anyone know of a hard drive that can be used with a FZ20M
I've looked everywhere. Its got to be reliable enough to
use live. Any ideas out there?
