Great card that Yamaha SW1000XG. But how the damnation do you get the Audio mixer to work? Importing audio files in to various audio channels in Cubase for testing, brings up channel numbers with * symbol following. This seems to signify stereo channels. I go in to the monitor pull-down menu and get the VST mixer and see the individual channel levels (12 channels of audio). These I can change individually. But when I use the mixer maps supplied from the Yamaha CD, I change the levels of channel 1 and all the audio channels on the left of the stero pairs change in audio level. I change channel 2 level and similar happens but on the right. All other channel level changes have no effect. So it seems that channels 1 & 2 in the mixer map effects all the channels together. Why is this ??? Its as if Cubase is mixing all the channels to 1&2 before the mixer map gets it turn. Is Cubase mixing the channels in software instead ?

Sorry if this message is long winded but its driving me barmy!

Thanks for any help possible,

Julian

Ok,

to answer my own question !

From the 'audio' menu in VST of to 'master'. Set the bus outputs down the bottom from SW1000XG #1-SW1000XG#6.
Set all the buses to active.

Go to 'Monitor' from the 'audio' menu. Down the bottom change the outputs for channels 1-12 to SW1000XG #1-SW1000XG#6.

This will ensure internal hardware mixing for the first twelve audio channels.

The Yamaha SW1000XG mixer maps will now work.

Simple !??!

Why not use XGedit insted of the mixermaps?!?
Here is a 10 point guide for the SW1000XG and Cubase VST 1: Install the SW1000XG so that it appears with no errors, or conflicts with
your windows system (control panel/system). in 99.99999% of all systems this will be the case anyway!) 2: Run up XGedit 2.61 (comes
on a floppy disk with the UK SW1000XG, if you dont have this floppy disk, then download it from www.yamaha.co.uk/shop),set the midi
ports in XGedit as follows Input SW1000 Midi in, Output SW1000 (1) and SW1000 (2) Test that this works (play the virtual keyboard, or
check the thru tab in the top left of xgedit and play from your keyboard), then quit XGedit 3: Install Hubi's Loopback driver from the
floppy disk supplied (UK versions of SW1000XG) or by downloading Hubi's loopback from the Yamaha XG Home page 4: When Hubi's is
installing, at the option screen select 2 instances (LB2) as your setting. 5: Set XGedit 2.61's midi outs (after rebooting to initialise
Hubi's), to LB1 and LB2 (in SW1000XG mode), set midi in to none ! (as you will be controlling the SW1000XG midi in from VST) 6: Run
up VST, set up your ASIO multimedia driver to wave profile the SW1000XG on all ports, and perform any sync tests. Make sure you
have the number of tracks set to a sensible level (minimum should be 12 to take full advantage of the SW1000 wave ports) 7: When this
passes, (if it doesnt, then you may be running VST 3.6, if so get the latest SW1000XG driver from our downloads section and install it
first ! - You will need to reboot for the new driver to take effect) then go to your ASIO control panel, and make sure all SW1000XG audio
ports are active (1-6) and also that the 2 input ports are active (1&2) - (You will not have them both active when recording however) 8: Go
to your master mixer, make sure that all of the SW1000XG output wave ports are active (green light on each). Make sure that LB1 and
LB2 are active as midi input ports in VST. 9: Go to your monitor mixer, and set your 12 (or more tracks) to Master, Buss 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
and 6 respectively (tracks 1&2 to master, 3&4 to buss 1, 5&6 to buss 2 etc etc). This will assign your VST channels in arrange page to
the master outs (which you have previously made active). Make sure that you pan the monito mixer tracks hard left and right so that
they pass over to the SW1000XG's individual audio channels (1-12) in the XGedit 2.61 mixer 10: Now make sure that you are not
filtering sysex out (midi options, filter) in VST (This is critical), and set up a control channel in VST's arrange page (call it SW1000
control) and set its midi port out to SW1000(1) and midi channel to ALL. Make sure in prefs in vst, that you have audio & midi to play in
background set to on, open up a multichannel audio track that uses all 12 channels, set your active track to the sw1000 control track,
switch to XGedit 2.61, and you will now be able to control all of your audio levels, pans, effects sends etc from xgedit and record the
changes in VST, as sysex or controller data, on your control track (much like a mixer map track). Most of this is common sense for
any professional VST user, but please contact Steinberg for any more info on VST rather than Yamaha, as we know it works, and we
have used VST at many shows to demo the SW1000XG, so if you are having problems (the XGedit test will show that it is not the
SW1000XG) then contact Steinberg!
