I use plate and reverb only..
But curious if there is some method or effect of adding even more clarity, at the same time keeping it mellow in the mix.
actually going to try gating them for the first time...em

just remove the present mid-range frequencies.. bass end creates nearness/warmth, tops add's distance/clarity - if you send some top-end of the mix OUT to a reverb and ONLY process the top end of the sound this'll give depth AND clarity AND warmth too... but dont send the midrange & bass end thru THE REVERB unless you want muddyness... still thats sorta going by the sorta-rules... you can do it anyways you like if it makes a sound
