I haven`t used one, but I considered it 4 a while as an alternative 2 the K2 - search the past threads on the main board. Its supposed 2 sound great but is woefully underpowered in the processor dept and therefore suffers severe timing probs and usable timbrality is reduced. The sequnecers poo, the sampler is workable but has no timestretch and is a bit arse about face (and cos its underpowered, u cant really use the synths at the same time   ) and it suffers from the same slow scsi probs as the a-series   Looks like Yam missed the boat on this one, it couldv`e been superb

thanks 4info man.

Bit dissapointing eh? Sounded like quite a rad outfit.

Kurzweil equivalent is ultimately better?

ha ha, yup - check the threads in the main forum, lotsa talk about the beasty at the moment - crap efx and some questionable rom sounds but *very* powerfull and versatile and altogether more "pro" whatever that means ;^)

It takes time to get to know and appreciate the ex5. As a sound creation tool it is outstanding.
It is very versatile in that aspect,
however Disk mode is badly thought out especially when it comes to the saving of samples. then theres the obvious dsp limitations, but if you want something to create sounds with plenty real time control options the ex5 is the synth to get.

I was pushed towards getting this as my first synth, but I was worried about outgrowing it soon. You know, jack of all trades, master of none. I opted for something else much cheaper, and from what I have heard, I am glad that I didn't go with the EX5.

You should be glad. I bought it and I can easily say it was the worst purchase I ever made. It took me 6 months to figure out I fucked up and when I sold it
I got 1/3 of what I paid for it. Lesson learned.
