Help, trying to sequence performances in song record mode on the EX5. I can't seem to get it to sequence and play back more than one performance at a time.

Here is what I have tried:
1. Setting up a number of performances I want to use and setting each to a different midi channel (I'm only using the EX5 here, no other hardware).
2. With a performance selected I enter song record mode and record some material on a given track.
3. I then select another performance and enter song record mode and attempt to record it to a different track.

On playback I can only ever hear one performance at a time (the performance I have currently selected). This sucks large and I can't help but think I have overlooked something. Perhaps it was never meant for this but the specs lead me to believe it was. Do I need some other expensive piece of crap to accomplish what this thing was supposed to do to begin with?

Has anyone got any suggestions?
