I replayed "Da Funk" on ReBirth. Cant say the 303 has the same sound but close enough I guess. Its only the last half of "Da Funk" though...the acid part.

For some damn reason I cant figure out Planet Souls "Set You Free". Its seems simple enough...I mean I figured out "Da Funk" so why the hell cant I figure out "Set You Free"? I love George Acostas music and want to RePlay it just for the hell of it. Has anyone RePlayed it? All the patterns?

Damnit! I used to have The Prodigy's "Speedway" perfectly sequenced...think I deleted it. I checked out that "Da Funk"...wasn't too hot with the sequencing...

If anyone has any good 303 lines, post 'em....

I told you. I didnt really fool around with it too much. Thats why I told you that you could sequence however you want cause its not really sequenced.

I tried to re-sequence it, but no luck...usually what I do is I sample the audio, cut it to just one measure of of a bassline, then convert it to a fasttracker instrument so I can slow it down and play with it repeatevely....then I loop a note and play around with the pitch with an acid sample...I had something close, but it's so hard to do. This is what I did with The Prodigy's "Speedway"....the thing with Da Funk is that there's so many slides...really hard to do. Also, we'll never get that same distortion because Daft Punk uses actual distortion pedals, and RB-338 has the most crappiest distotion...the one from version 1.5 was better.....

I usually do the same thing. Ill make an acid loop on ReBirth and Ill sample it on my ASR-10 and loop it. Then Ill slow it down, speed it up, cut it, chop it, freak it, tweak it, and/or whatever makes it sound dope. Then Ill add something from my Bass Station, yes the one that people have never tried and usually dis but is super dope, and add the final touches...add this and that and... you know the process. I pretty much use my ASR-10 to sequence everything. -Pete

Errrr...I think you missinterpreted what I said. I sample the original bassline from a song, slow it down, and loop individual notes (not by note) to figure out the pitches...then I convert what I studied into a bassline in RB-338...

Oh...I see. I also do stuff by ear, like "Da Funk". I didnt slow it down though. It might of have been easier if I did though. I just kept doing the bassline in my head and set the pattern, accent here, slide there, etc. until it all sounded right. It didnt take me long at all. I havn't tried to ReDo any other basslines except "Set You Free", but I'll probably experiment with other shit just to get the hang of the sounds better. -Pete

Gotcha, but doing things in your head can sometimes be very difficult because of the modulation in the bassline. Plus, distortion doesn't help much either. Try slowing them down, it works, but take s a long time. Got any other basslines? I once tried to work out "Move Your Ass!" by "Scooter", but no success really, too complicated, not the right distortion.

Well, too, you have to understand that a lot of the time they have multiple 303s going, so it makes it nearly impossible..

Hmmm...very true, but in "Move Your Ass!" it's only one 303 playing a complicated bassline. There may be another one in the backround playing a 4/4 bassline, but that's about it, so it's easy to distinguish what's being played.

weird...the first thing i did after getting Rebirth was to try and redo "da funk"...actually i did the whole song...i managed to get the main hookline to sound decent in rebirth too. (not dead-on but sounds very cool in its own right!) but i can't play 'em at the same time because you can only have distortion on 1 303 at a time...grr...

try this......make a 303 line on rebirth, then right the notes out on paper,I dont know notes so I made up my own way to right them down, then hop on your synth and play the notes one at a time with the tempo slowed down and quantize the notes to 1/16 notes.....this will allow you to make 303 style synth lines using other synth's sounds

Thats exactly what I do. I write the patterns down on paper. I just write the note, up or down, accent, etc. Its safer to do that so you never have to worry about losing a song.

Have you guys tried SEQ-303 by Techno Toys?

It's a little sequencer type thang, dead simple to use. Creates sequences for notes/velocity/all controlers / NRPN's for AWE cards etc. Output on any driver / midi out

I just get my BassStation going then hit the random button for things like Notes/velocity/filter/resonance (they are all on separate pages so you can edit them if you want)

I just sit down and create about 20 different 1 and 2 bar patterns then I'll export them to a midi file and try the sequences out on different keyboards etc.

Best thing is you can try it completely free for a month fully functional..

http://www.technotoys.com/

Plus they have some other odds and ends that are geared towards the old analogue sequencer style of doing things..

I have Seq 303 but never used it. I dont have a midi interface so I cant hook up my hardware to my computer. It is very simple though. I downloaded it about six months ago and its never stopped. I dont think it ever expires, unless they changed it. I havent been to the site in six months so I dont know.

...and no, I dont type the 303 notes into another synth. The only keyboard I have is an Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler and a Novation Bass Station. It does sound like a dope idea though. I guess I could though by running my Bass Station though my ASR. Ill have to give it a try.

What i do is just write out 16 cricle & darken in the ones i want to input a note on. Then go to the 303 & decide there what notes to put in. Then listen to it. If it sounds cool, then input accents & slides. Then go back to paper & write down the notes under the circles & put a u or d to see if it's up or down. it works pretty good. And you have your patterns writen down incase you loose the patterns in the 303.

I do some thin simaller.....I just draw 16 linez and circle the note, and if its a sharp or a flat I draw 2 linez then a space and then I put another 3(and circle one),if there is an accent, slide,or up or down octive I draw 4 linez and circle them accordingly......yea,usualy I make the baseline first then write it down to eather save or to put it into my JP.........I have tried to first write it down then type it into the 303 but since I dont know what how to read notes I just stuck with the other way.

How about 1^s for first note, up, slide and 3vA for third note, down, accent. Thats pretty much how I do it on paper. I write all 16 steps.

that will work, but theres 13 notes on the 303(incuding sharps and flats)......so how to imply those?.........how bout 1-3^sa that is the first note, second note in(I put 3 becouse if u count up from the left and you inclued the sharp or flat whatever it is,you get 3)and then a slide and accent........I no thats kinda confusing but it'll work, here an example to try,you should type in one of yours 1-5v 2-5^ 3-5 4-5^ 5-5 6-5^ 7-5 8-5^ 9-5 10-3^ 11-5 12-5^ 13-5 14-3^ 15-5v 16-6^
