Anyone who can't tell the difference between a real 303 and the 303 emulations
shouldn't be making music in the first place.

Grow some fuckin ears!

I'm with Diego on this one. I have yet to hear a 303 clone that sounds as good as the
original.

I with you. Who cares? The TB303 is cool and all but I think it has got out of hand. I have over 4,000 records that kick ass and not a 303 on them. This whole TB303 craze is just getting stupid. I like the tb303 but it was not all that. Some people think... WoW I have a TB303, I am going to make some dope ass tracks....Well it doesn't work that way...I have noticed though in a lot of tracks coming out now, well from the UK that are slammin do not have a TB303 in them. Makes you think? All it is is a plastic little over priced box. Yes I paid a lot for mine and I sold it for a lot. I didn't really want to sell it but I needed the cash. So I looked in my studio and said some stupid fuck out there will give me $1000 for this little plastic box... So I sold it. I did't need it anyway. I think I will buy a Clone just to piss some people off.

To tell the difference between an original and a clone you have to listen to them dry and in isolation..

If you spend your whole time doing that then you deserve to be classed a boring anal fuckwit.

I have a theory I've been harbouring for some time now.

It's the name is'nt?

I mean: " TB303 "

TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303
TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303 TB303

It just the name guys is'nt it? Oh, and the look of it.

I'll bet a lot of you want it just to have it and hold it close to your bosom and kiss it. Bet it would hardly be used much. You would stare intently at the badge on it that said: " Roland TB303 Bassline, Computer Controlled " PHOOARR!! yes you would you know...go on admit it!!

Then you would wish you had a time machine so you could go back to 1985 when thay were worth 2p and buy tons of them so you could pretend you were in Hardfloor or something. That would be you that would.

Admit it, if it was called, oh, something like a: " Roland ABEI 123 Bass Patterner, Diode Controlled " and looked like a Morris Minor, you would touch it.
What's my point....oh I don't know, I suppose if it looked like shit had an uncool name but still made THAT sound. It would'nt be so popular. Which goes to show why the clones that are so close that there is hardly any diffrence in sound, are'nt catching on with the devote 303 purists. Coz they have'nt got that Iconic status of the 303 to them. The diffrence in the sound in TINY!!!

So there.

Well said! If it came with a picture of a big stiffy embossed on it I don't reckon the demand would be so high.

I had a theory once about marketing design... I reckoned if you had a fabric softener and the packaging had a great big cock sticking out of it, then all the houswives would buy it.

It'd be really easy for them just to reach out and grab it.. And because a lot of them are sex starved then they would be doing it in a trance like state, next thing you know the shelves are empty and everyones happy.

but that just would'nt work with a synth.. I mean would you buy a synth that had a great big pair of latex knockers on the top, two controllers if you will. And the slot for the memory cards could be in the shape of a great big vul,,fccdc cough.. ahem,.. I've said too mutch.

yes, the tb303 is pretty dead.. I have heard many good trax without it..
And, about the whole "can tell a 303,etc " yknow what the real difference is from a tb303 and a clone is? well.. generally, the clones are made to better tolerances!
I mean, two tb303s dont sound alike cuz they were made so crappy, so how the hell do you expect to find a tb303 that sounds exactly like a clone? or how do you find a tb303 that sounds like a tb303 for that matter?!?
Marketing... well, the ems synthi a sounds just like a 303, why didnt those become more popular?
well, mainly cuz the damn things were overpriced (as is most of novations buggy crap is today)

The tb303 would have remained a joke had it not been for the drastic price drop.. It was like "well, for 100 bux, what the hell? I need a synth to go with my 808 I bought for 300 bux and I cant afford a midi synth so...
I know this was the case, I am old enough to have been there in Chicago right after the whole breakdancing craze.. 808s and 303s were about worthless, every pawn and music shop had at least 1 of each...
I know of a place called musiclab in lansing IL that had a roland expo back in 88 and were raffling off 303s.. they had about 15 of em, and some of the ppl who won them didnt want them and gave em back or tried to trade them for distortion pedals and shit!
